Abstract: An enclosed positive displacement mechanism including a body with an inlet and an outlet; a rotor mounted in the body and rotatable about a main axis; an orbiting piston located in the cavity, rotatable about an eccentric secondary axis and arranged to orbit around the main axis to roll on the internal side surface of the cavity; and a vane located in the cavity, slidable in the piston and mounted in the body between one inlet and one outlet so as to oscillate. The orbiting piston and the vane divide in cyclic manner the cavity into a first and a second chamber with variable volume, which are mutually complementary and communicate with the inlet and the outlet. During a portion of its oscillation, the vane passes through the piston and is in contact with the side surface of the cavity, thereby separating the chambers in a fluid-tight manner.

The shape of the internal surface of the housing and the rotor is such as to define a plurality of variable volume working chambers between the rotor and the housing. The rotor and internal surface of the housing may be cylindrical with the variable volume working chambers formed by sealing means projecting from the rotor in contact with the internal surface of the housing. The rotor and internal surface of the housing may also have a multi-lobed configuration with there being one less projecting lobe on the rotor than lobes in the housing with the projecting lobes of the rotor being essentially the same size and shape as those of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4280798
Abstract: An improved work machine of the eccentric piston type which may be employed to translate force of pressurized fluid into rotary shaft motion in an external combustion type engine system, as a pump for pumping fluids in a fluid handling system, and as a fluid actuated motor. The work machine comprises a housing having an internal compartment with a peripheral lobe. An inner body is mounted for non-rotational orbital movement in the housing. The inner body housing, and a movable wall member located in a peripheral recess of the inner body form variable-volume fluid intake and discharge chambers in the housing compartment during orbital movement of the inner body. Pressurized fluid supplied to the fluid intake chamber of the housing imparts non-rotational orbital movement of the inner body in the housing and corresponding rotational motion to an output shaft on which the inner body is eccentrically mounted.

  • Patent number: 4265605
Abstract: An improved rotary pump designed to ensure a high pumping efficiency and delivery pressure without any unfavorable pulsation thereof. The pump includes a pump shaft drivably coupled to a prime mover and provided with a groove having a bottom surface extending in parallel with the axis of said shaft, and an eccentric rotor received in a cylindrical chamber for pumping of fluid and arranged to surround through a bearing said pump shaft for eccentric movement relative to said pump shaft while keeping a sealing contact with the wall of said cylindrical chamber. One or more wedge roller is disposed between said groove bottom surface and said bearing for effective power transmission from said pump shaft to said eccentric rotor. Between the cylindrical chamber wall and said eccentric rotor, there is formed a pump chamber which is sealingly divided by a partition member into a suction chamber and a delivery chamber.

Abstract: A rotary displacement pump comprising a casing including a cylindrical in surface defining a stator chamber with an inlet and an outlet connected thereto. A cylindrical displacement body is movably mounted within the stator chamber having an outer surface which is movable into close association with the cylindrical inner surface along a line. A shaft is provided with an eccentric connected to the displacement body with a bearing to eccentrically move the displacement body within the stator chamber and move the line of close association in a circular path within the stator chamber. Gas tight spring bodies are connected between the displacement body and the casing for preventing rotation of the displacement body with respect to the casing and the displacement body is provided with first and second slide sealing members for dividing the stator chamber into an inlet base and an outlet base.

  • Patent number: 4157882
Abstract: A sealing arrangement in a rotary machine between the eccentric rotary piston and the separating slide engaging a recess in the piston. A spring-loaded strip is guided in a lengthwise slot of the rotary piston, and is in contact with each side wall of the separating slide throughout the entire length. The vertex formed by an obtuse angle of the front sides of the strip in the region of the center line of the strip, is in sliding-motion connection with the side wall of the separating slide. The center line of the strip forms an angle of substantially 55.degree. with the center line of the separating slide, at dead center. Compression springs associated with the rear side of the strip are held in blind holes which are spaced by a predetermined distance. The recess of the rotary piston which accommodates the separating slide, has a trapezoidal cross-section.

  • Patent number: 4097205
Abstract: An orbital pump or the like comprises a housing having first and second end walls and intermediate, axially spaced first and second annular, inwardly projecting wall members. First and second axial drive shaft portions are installed through the housing first and second end walls respectively. A spool shaped engine rotor having radially outwardly projecting end flanges is installed in the housing with the first and second end flanges closely adjacent to axially outer surfaces of the first and second annular wall members. The rotor is eccentrically rotatably mounted to inner ends of the drive shaft portions. The two annular wall members and rotor ends divide the housing interior into an inlet plenum at the housing first end, a central chamber and an outlet plenum at the housing second end. A pair of intersecting rotor vanes, mounted diametrically through major portions of the rotor and in mutual orthogonal relationship, circumferentially divide the central chamber into four working chambers.

  • Patent number: 4021160
Abstract: An engine, pump or motor is disclosed of a type generally similar to the "Wankel" engine, except that the present invention is characterized by purely orbital motion of the piston to produce rotation of the output shaft. Preferably the shaft has two eccentric sections in radial alignment, the first eccentric axis being displaced from the main axis, one half the displacement of the second eccentric axis from the main axis. A pinion is rotatably mounted about the first eccentric axis. A fixed internal ring gear is fixed against rotation and mounted about the main axis so as to engage the pinion at a point in radial alignment with the two eccentric axes. An orbital ring gear is preferably identical to the fixed ring gear and rotatably mounted about the second eccentric axis so as to engage the pinion at a point on the pinion diametrically opposite the point of engagement of the pinion and the fixed ring gear. The piston is also rotatably mounted about the second eccentric axis and fixed to the orbital ring gear.
