  • Patent number: 9448035
Abstract: A foldable firearm sight assembly including a leaf spring is disclosed. The disclosed assembly may include a base, a sight arm, and a leaf spring. The base of the sight assembly may be configured to attach to a firearm rail using, for example, a clamp bracket and a clamp bolt. The sight arm may be rotationally coupled to the base, and the leaf spring may be positioned between the base and the sight arm. When installed in the sight assembly, the leaf spring may be deflected and may apply a biasing force to the sight arm, causing the sight arm to favor either a deployed or stowed (undeployed) position. The sight arm may be lockable in stowed and/or deployed positions using a tooth and aperture configuration. In such lockable cases, the arm may be unlocked/released by manually depressing an end of leaf spring.

  • Patent number: 8015744
Abstract: A folding rear sight includes a base member and a spring-loaded sight housing that deploys into an operational position with a simple release lever. The sight includes two separate dual-purpose aiming elements, one fixed, and one that rotates between an inactive position and an active position in front of the fixed element. The top aiming end of the fixed aiming element includes a large diameter close quarter battle (CQB) aperture and an vertically extending sighting notch configured and arranged above the large CQB aperture. The top aiming end of the rotatable aiming element includes a smaller, long-range sighting aperture and an elongated vertically extending sighting notch configured and arranged above the smaller sighting aperture. The dual-purpose aiming elements provide standard aperture sights for situations where the soldier has reasonable time to aim the weapon.

  • Publication number: 20090205240
Abstract: A mount comprising a connecting portion attachable to a firearm, a first member connected to the connecting portion to be rotatable about a first axis, a second member connected to the first member to be rotatable about a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis, and an attachment system connected to the second member for receiving an accessory. Also, a mount attachable to a firearm and having a dampener system connected to base and body portions thereof, the dampener system acting to dampen a recoil force produced by the firearm. Further, a mount attachable to a firearm and allowing a first rotation varying an azimuth of an accessory and a second rotation varying an angle of elevation of the accessory, and control means adjusting the second rotation to obtain a desired value and automatically producing the first rotation to correct a lateral drift of the firearm.

  • Publication number: 20090038203
Abstract: An eyepiece of a firearm scope includes a spring positioned between a shock mount and an ocular lens, wherein the spring holds the ocular lens a predetermined position from an objective lens of the scope when the spring is in an uncompressed state. During recoil of the firearm, the spring compresses to allow the ocular lens to travel towards the objective lens, thereby increasing an effective eye clearance distance between the ocular lens and a shooter. Following recoil, the spring expands to return the ocular lens to the predetermined position. The spring compresses again during impact of the eyepiece with the shooter's face, thereby partially absorbing the force of the impact and reducing the chance of injury to the shooter.

  • Patent number: 7356962
Abstract: A low profile, self-aligning, flip-up mechanism for aiming devices used with firearms. The mechanism folds the aiming device into the contour of the firearm during non-use. The mechanism is spring-loaded and flips into a vertical operational position with a simple movement of a finger or thumb. The mechanism includes at least two separate aiming elements that are mounted in a fashion that allows them to rotate relative to one another thereby facilitating a smaller storage profile. The mechanism also causes the aiming device to self-align itself as it moves into an operational position assuring vertical position repeatability.
