  • Patent number: 9010006
Abstract: A method and apparatus for intentionally slowing the speed at which detachable ammunition magazines can be interchanged in a firearm receiver. A magazine catch assembly includes a latch adapted to engage a recess of a standard magazine in the magazine well. A hand-activated crank interacts with threads of a push-rod portion of the latch so that manual rotation of the hand crank in one direction (e.g., counter-clockwise) displaces the latch after a sufficient number of turns. Reverse rotation of the hand crank returns the latch to its engaged condition ready to automatically re-engage the next magazine inserted into the firearm receiver. Alternatively, viscoelastic foam or other mechanical time-delay feature can be used instead of screw threads to introduce a mechanically transmitted dwell period before the latch is actuated.

  • Patent number: 8756845
Abstract: An accessory which becomes an integral part of a semi-automatic firearm whereby the firearm is converted from one with a detachable magazine into one with a fixed magazine. The device is comprised of an upper tension bar and a magazine catch bar whereby the upper tension bar holds the magazine firmly within the magazine well receiver when the upper tension bar is contacting the upper receiver. When the upper receiver and lower receiver of the firearm are in an open position, the upper tension bar freely moves inward toward the firearm, allowing the magazine catch bar to remove from the magazine well receiver. A user may then remove the magazine from the magazine well receiver and replace it with a new magazine. The user must reattach the upper receiver to the lower receiver before utilizing the firearm.

  • Patent number: 6044748
Abstract: Reliability of a multi-lug breech bolt is improved by modifying the bearing relationship between the bolt lugs and the matching lugs within a gun receiver. This procedure is applied to a gun that has a receiver housing a breech bolt and an extractor. The extractor is coupled to the breech bolt and configured to move relative thereto. The bolt for this gun has at least five radially extending bolt lugs configured for bearing contact with the receiver when positioned for firing. The bolt lugs include a first, second, and third bolt lug with the first and second bolt lugs being adjacent and defining a gap configured to receive the extractor therebetween. The third bolt lug extends from the bolt opposite the gap. Stress imparted to the first and second bolt lugs from firing the gun is reduced by altering the gun to prevent formation of a bearing relationship between the third bolt lug and the receiver when the bolt lugs are positioned for firing. The gun is reassembled as part of the procedure.
