Patent number: 8763293Abstract: Applicant has disclosed a method and apparatus to enhance feeding cartridges into the receiver of a bolt-action repeating rifle, from a detachable magazine. In the preferred embodiment, Applicant's invention strips the cartridges from the magazines and feeds the cartridges into the chamber by a spring-activated hinged flap, pinned in a mating recess in a breech bolt head, adjacent a well opening and the inserted magazine. The flap is biased by a spring, which tends to lower the flap away from the breech bolt head, when the breech bolt is in a retracted position. As the breech bolt is pushed forward, the flap engages a rim of the next cartridge to be fed from the magazine and pushes the cartridge out of the magazine, over a feed ramp of the magazine, towards the rifle's chamber. The flap raises, against spring pressure, as it contacts a feed ramp of the receiver, allowing the breech bolt to enter the locking area of the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2012Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: O.F. Patent number: 8739445Abstract: A robust and convenient caliber conversion kit is described, for example, for the higher-caliber GLOCK® semi-automatic pistol. The caliber conversion kit has an internalized spent round extractor for more reliability. In addition, the firing pin safety relies on a set of two-dimensional surfaces, rather than on a one-dimensional line or edge, for cooperation (interaction and support) with the firing pin and with a recess in the firing pin housing that receives the safety, resulting in more security. Also, the spent round ejector is snugly fastened around an outwardly-extending abutment of steel on the barrel, the abutment being within a recess also snugly fitting the perimeter of the front end of the ejector, resulting in a quieter ejector mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2012Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Technical Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Sean R. Publication number: 20140075805Abstract: To permit ease and efficiency for the extraction of spent cartridge cases from the cartridge chamber of a firearm barrel within a wide range of temperature conditions, the internal tapered surface of the body region of a cartridge chamber is prepared by establishing circumferentially spaced longitudinal straight or curved regions of the internal surface finish to create an internal cartridge chamber geometry having gradually tapered spaced longitudinally relieved linear or spiral areas having longitudinal linear or spiral lands between each of the relieved areas. The circumferentially spaced lands develop controlled impedance to rearward cartridge case movement on cartridge firing to effectively protect the bolt and extractor mechanisms of the firearm against early failure.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2012Publication date: March 20, 2014Inventor: Mark C. Patent number: 7478494Abstract: The invention relates to a repeating weapon, especially to a repeating rifle, with a cartridge chamber and a bolt block, which contains a bolt that can move relative to the cartridge chamber and that can be locked by means of a locking device in a closed position. For improving the safety against elevated gas pressure, the cartridge chamber is embodied such that a cartridge can be pushed completely into the cartridge chamber and the cartridge chamber has a rear sealing surface sealing flush with the case bottom of the cartridge for contacting a breech block on a front bolt head of the bolt.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2005Date of Patent: January 20, 2009Assignee: Blaser Finanzholding GmbHInventor: Meinrad Zeh

Patent number: 7398614Abstract: A firearm apparatus and a method of firing ammunition therefrom, where the method utilizes a barrel (12) having a breech end surface (40) and immovably affixed to frame (10), a stand pressure surface (32), and a cartridge container (16) with a cartridge case (26) therein and countermass main body (18) movable in opposite directions. Gas from a deflagrating propellant moves the movable members and applies directionally opposite forces upon the breech end surface (40) and the stand pressure surface (32), which results in the force cancellation and ensures that the barrel (12) remains stable during firing. This solves the problem of the angle of departure and contributes to a high accuracy of shooting.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2006Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Inventors: Leonid Rozhkov, Igor Rozhkov

Patent number: 7395626Abstract: Fire arm with selection device for right or left-hand cartridge case ejection comprising a barrel (12), a breech bolt holder slide (21), a breech bolt (18) fitted with firing pin (19) and a frame (14) fitted with openings on both sides (15) for firing the cartridge case (16), in which the selection device comprises two sliding extractors (33, 33?) in housings (32) on opposite sides of the breech bolts (18) and an ejection control component (23), the extractors (33, 33?) comprise an engagement terminal (34), suitable for acting on the cartridge case (16), and a shaft (36) protruding out from the back of the breech bolt (18) bearing a helical spring (37), for the intervention of the control component (23).Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2005Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Fabrica D'Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A.Inventor: Ulrich Zedrosser

Patent number: 7380362Abstract: An extractor mechanism with improved reliability is provided having an extractor arm pivotally mounted within a pocket in a firearm slide. The extractor arm includes a body portion and a hook portion, the body portion being disposed within the pocket and the hook portion extending out of the pocket from an opening proximate to the breech face. The hook portion is biased toward the firearm's firing axis and includes a distal edge sized to engage a cartridge rim. The hook portion preferably has a height greater than the body portion and the portions are preferably connected by a curved portion. Two surfaces preferably meet at the distal edge of the hook portion, with the surface more proximal to the breech face being substantially parallel to the breech face and the surface more distant from the breech face, diverging from the breech face at an acute angle.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2005Date of Patent: June 3, 2008Assignee: Smith & Wesson Corp.Inventors: Brett Curry, Gary E. Zukowski

Patent number: 7377066Abstract: A readily replaceable bolt face for a firearm (10) with a movable slide (12) that strips a round from a magazine, extracts the spent round from the firing chamber and then ejects the round from the firearm by means of an ejector. A bolt face insert (32) has an external configuration that is common to a range of calibers, but with a bolt face side (66) designed to fit the rim of a specific caliber or calibers having the same rim dimension. The insert may be replaced to fit a different caliber without replacing the slide. The bolt face insert is provided with a slot (62) for the ejector and a groove (60) to accept an extractor for the specified caliber.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2003Date of Patent: May 27, 2008Inventor: Wildey J. Patent number: 7360331Abstract: An autoloading pistol with a magazine disconnect mechanism that blocks discharge of the pistol when the magazine is removed by action upon the pistol's firing pin. The pistol may generally include a removable magazine, a housing defining a chamber to hold a cartridge, and a firing pin movable towards the chamber. The magazine disconnect mechanism includes a blocking member which may be movably disposed in the housing, and is movable into and out of engagement with the firing pin. In one embodiment, an actuator may be provided that controls the position of the blocking member and is movable in response to the insertion and removal of the magazine from the pistol. The actuator in a possible first position disengages the blocking member from the firing pin when the magazine is inserted in the pistol to allow the pistol to be discharged.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2004Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc.Inventor: James McGarry
