  • Patent number: 11415382
Abstract: A firearm reliability system may include a charging handle insert and a variable bolt weight assembly. Other components of a firearm reliability system may include, but are not limited to, a buffer pressure plug, extractor springs, firing pin springs, one or more firing pins, and bolt buffers. The firearm reliability system may address weaknesses in the common rimfire AR bolt system. Using the firearm reliability system, malfunctions may be essentially eliminated. Each component of the firearm reliability system plays a part and interfaces with the others (i.e., the bolt weight spreads the impact on the buffer into a larger area, while reducing the speed at which the bolt impacts the backplate, which then reduces the energy transferred to the buffer pressure plug and thus the impact with the lower receiver).

  • Patent number: 10228201
Abstract: An integrated magazine and bolt release mechanism that is intended to automate the operations of magazine release when empty, and bolt release when a loaded magazine is inserted into the rifle. The release mechanism may include a mechanical switch device. The mechanical switch device may be a lever that is able to identify the presence of ammunition. By way of mechanical linkage, the system is able to control the magazine catch surface to either maintain or expel a magazine. The linkage facilitate the transition of vertical motion, imparted by the magazine body and follower to the lever into horizontal motion of an arm to move the magazine catch in and out of engagement with the magazine's locking surface. Upward vertical motion of the lever may actuate the bolt catch surface by means of a mechanical link that serves to reverse the direction of vertical motion. As the magazine body moves upward, the lever impinges on the arm that forces the bolt catch downward, to release the locked bolt group.

  • Patent number: 8898946
Abstract: A magazine adapter includes a base that is structured to fit within the magazine well of a firearm, and to accept a magazine designed for smaller caliber ammunition than the original firearm. The adapter includes a bolt catch actuator slidably mounted therein. Magazines for which the adapter is intended include an upwardly extending rear projection of the follower, projecting from an opening in the rear of the magazine housing when the follower is in an upper portion of the magazine. When the upwardly extending projection pushes upward on the bolt catch actuator, the bolt catch is actuated, holding the firearms bolt in a rearward position. The magazine adapter thereby facilitates use of the original firearm controls with a caliber conversion unit, or with an upper receiver and barrel combination of a different caliber.

  • Patent number: 8875433
Abstract: The present invention involves techniques for rapid, flexible, partial and supplemental reloading of firearms using specialized actions, intermediate storage devices/feeds and multiple magazines, which may, in some embodiments, be simultaneously engaged with a firearm. The techniques disclosed include a feeding system, which may be a multiple-magazine feeding system, that allows a firearm to remain loaded and firing-ready with multiple loaded cartridges at all times, even during reloading operations. The invention also includes other techniques for flexible, non-wasteful, partially-empty reloading, to eliminate reloading paralysis, and allow the soldier or other user, not the size of a magazine, to determine when firing should continue and when and if it should pause.

  • Patent number: 8819977
Abstract: A compact firearm spring arrangement within a firearm magazine utilizes two or more springs connected in a linear arrangement by a connecting cup that allows one spring to compress within the other, thereby resulting in a free length spring system having a reduced height when fully compressed while maintaining sufficient force for operation of the firearm. The reduced height of the spring when fully compressed allows for additional bullet storage space within a magazine of standard size or, alternatively, a more compact system within a magazine that provides an equal amount of bullet storage space while reducing the friction of operation of the firearm.

  • Patent number: 8776426
Abstract: A magazine release assist tool is described comprising of a generally U-shaped clip having an integrated arm extension. The tool is used to assist in the release of a magazine from a firearm that is equipped with a magazine release blocking mechanism. The clip is removably secured to the lower receiver of a firearm and the arm extension is provided to form a resilient flat spring having a pivot at its proximate end and a push pin at its distal end. When attached to the firearm, a user can depress the flat spring such that the push pin will engage the magazine release button of the firearm allowing quick removal of the magazine.

  • Patent number: 8752317
Abstract: A magazine for a firearm is adjustable for cartridge capacity using a thumb slide to select the quantity of cartridges to be held by the magazine. The thumb slide is operable in a vertical slot and below the carriage pushing up on the bullets. The thumb slide protrudes into the internal chamber through the vertical slot so as to form an obstruction preventing downward movement of the carriage beyond the obstruction. Alternatively, the thumb slide raises a platform on which a segmented spring rests. When the platform is raised, it reduces available storage in the magazine. If a capacity selection requires a smaller spring, then spring segments are removed. A set screw locks the thumb slide in place. An indicator bar shows through holes in the magazine indicating the number of cartridges remaining in the magazine. A bolt and nut is introduced to permanently prevent further adjustment.

  • Patent number: 8752318
Abstract: A magazine for storing and dispensing cartridges to a firearm. In one embodiment, the magazine includes a tubular body, a compression spring, and a two-piece follower including a first follower moveable within the magazine and a second follower disposed below the first follower. The second follower may be movable independently of the first follower and is engaged by the compression spring which applies a biasing force towards an open top end of the magazine. The second follower includes a base plate having an upward extending flange configured and dimensioned for slidable insertion through a slot formed in the first follower. The second follower is operable to project the flange through the slot to contact and assist with ejecting the last spent cartridge case in the magazine. In one embodiment, the firearm may be a pistol.

  • Patent number: 8689475
Abstract: A firearms magazine has compound tapered side walls and feed lips having substantially parallel end portions for maintaining contact with the cartridge as it is loaded. Removable inserts reduce the interior length and width to hold cartridges of different sizes. The insert has a channel along its height to protect the cartridge noses, and is held by a reinforcing member. A movable cartridge follower feeds the cartridges out of the magazine and has projections slideable in channels of the insert.

  • Patent number: 8646200
Abstract: An ammunition magazine with an improved base locking, including: a hollow magazine body, a follower, a spring and a magazine base. The magazine body is equipped with track guides that correspond to grooves embodied on the magazine base, that the magazine base is guided onto. The spring is spirally embodied such that the first turn fully encompasses the surface of the magazine base and in the compressed state the rest of the spring, without the first turn, can fully fit into the follower pressed by the spring. The magazine base has a catch on one side and a hole positioned next to the catch. The magazine body has a slit allowing the catch to pass unobstructed into the magazine body and catch the detent spot on the spring positioned inside the magazine body. An advantage is improved safety of magazine base locking to the magazine body and simpler construction.
