Patent number: 9309039Abstract: This palette accessory and paint storage system keeps oil paint fresh and pliable for weeks at room temperature. A linear paint tray, upon which daubs of paint are placed, is stored inside an airtight tube. Felt wicks mounted inside the end caps hold clove oil, which prevents the oxidation of oil paints. For heavy bodied acrylics, the end caps are mounted with sponge material or silica gel that would be moistened to create a humid environment that prevents acrylics from drying and hardening. When the artist is ready to paint, the paint tray is removed from the storage tube and secured with clips or Velcro to a mixing palette, paint box, or easel. The painter dips into the paint daubs on the tray to mix the desired colors on their palette. When done painting, the paint tray, with the unused paint, is re-inserted into the tube for storage and transport.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2014Date of Patent: April 12, 2016Inventor: Patricia Kellner

Patent number: 9017700Abstract: The present application describes a novel, advantageous purification method which guarantees the embryonation capability and the viability of a worm egg suspension. The T. suis worm eggs are first treated in a non-embryonated condition in a sulfuric acid solution at about =ph 2. Bacteria and viruses are thereby killed successfully. The germination number of yeasts and fungi is reduced. In a second step, the pH-value is increased and an orally tolerated preservative is added. Yeasts and fungi are thereby killed successfully. The suspension medium used in the second purification step can then be used as a culture medium for additional production (embryonation) and storage.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2008Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Dr. Falk Pharma GmbHInventors: Rudolf Wilhelm, Allan Kund Roepstorff, Christian Moliin Outzen Kapel

Patent number: 9011766Abstract: A method for increasing the shelf life of donor blood contemplates the following steps. In the first step blood is transferred to a sterile container and mixed with an anticoagulant as indicated in step 20. The anticoagulant and donor blood are centrifuged in step 22 at about 4,000 rpm for about 15 minutes. After centrifuging the red blood cells are separated and placed in a sterile tube. In the next step the red blood cells are irradiated by a laser that emanates a wavelength of about 633 nm for a time period of about 24 hours. During rotation the RBCs are rotated to provide uniform exposure. Such laser biostimulation produces an enhancement of shelf life of donor blood by 66%.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2012Date of Patent: April 21, 2015Assignee: King Saud UniversityInventors: Al-Khalid Isam Zuhaier, Mohamad Saleh AlSalhi, Vadivel Masilamani

Patent number: 8906299Abstract: A container (22) includes a shell (24) made from a polymer, for example PET, and incorporating a catalyst, for example a palladium catalyst. A closure (40) incorporates a plug which includes a source of hydrogen, for example a hydride. In use, with container (22) including a beverage and closure (40) in position, the headspace in the container will be saturated with water vapor. This vapor contacts the hydride associated with plug (42) and as a result the hydride produces molecular hydrogen which migrates into the polymer matrix of shell (24) and combines with oxygen which may have entered the container through its permeable walls. A reaction between the hydrogen and oxygen takes place, catalyzed by the catalyst, and water is produced. Thus, oxygen which may ingress the container is scavenged and the contents of the container are protected from oxidation.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2008Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: Colormatrix Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Mark Rule, Ronald J. Patent number: 7972558Abstract: A method and an apparatus for sterilizing packaging material for use in packaging for protein containing products, such as food products or medical drugs. The packaging material is sterilized by irradiating it using a beam of ionizing radiation, such as an electron beam or a beam of gamma rays. Afterwards, the packaging material is processed in such a manner that protein reactive substances or compounds formed in the packaging material during the irradiation step are at least partly removed or rendered inreactive with respect to proteins. The processing step may advantageously be performed by heating the packaging material. Preferably, the processing step involves accelerating diffusion from the packaging material of protein reactive substances or compounds. Containers for holding the biological fluid are marked by the apparatus to indicate the status of the treatment.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2002Date of Patent: January 17, 2006Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: Kathleen A. Patent number: 6872357Abstract: This invention relates to formulations and methods for preserving sensitive biologicals, viruses, bacteria and eukaryotic cells by drying. More particularly, the invention relates to preservation mixtures containing viruses or cells and protectants, including a combination of a methylated monosaccharide and a disaccharide, or oligosaccharide, wherein the mixtures are adapted to stabilize these during dehydration and subsequent storage at ambient and higher temperature.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: Quadrant Drug Delivery LimitedInventors: Victor Bronshtein, Lynn Linkowski

Patent number: 6861033Abstract: A water supply sub-system for connection to a main water supply system includes a storage tank having an inlet with a flow control valve for connection to the main water supply system. The sub-system may be disconnected from the main system and configured as a closed system for disinfecting the sub-system. An outlet line connects the storage tank to a pump that pumps water from the tank to a sub-system supply line. One or more branch connections may connect the sub-system supply line to high-demand water using devices, such as dialysis machines. The supply line may be a feedback loop. A shunt feedback loop parallel to the feedback loop of the supply line has a pressure control valve that regulates pressure in the supply line feedback loop. A filtration device may also be included to ensure the purity of the water circulating through the sub-system.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2004Date of Patent: March 1, 2005Assignee: Gambro, Inc.Inventors: Stephen M. Patent number: 6818179Abstract: Methods and apparatus for sterilizing heat sensitive fluids are provided. The methods include providing a first heat sensitive fluid component, providing a second fluid component, heating the second fluid component to a temperature greater than a predetermined sterilizing temperature, mixing the first heat sensitive fluid component with the heated second fluid component to heat the first heat sensitive fluid components and provide a mixed fluid at a temperature at least up to the predetermined sterilizing temperature, and maintaining the mixed fluid at that temperature for a predetermined sterilizing period. Apparatus for carrying out this method is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2002Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Gambro Lundia ABInventors: Raymond Anthony Edgson, Michael John Dunkley, Richard J. Patent number: RE39449Abstract: A system dynamically adjusts the delivery rate of a cryopreservation solution to red blood cells to permit freezing. The delivery rate is preferably determined according to an equation that maintains a linear change of red blood cell osmolarity over time so as to prevent osmolarity shock of the red blood cells. In the preferred embodiment, the system includes a controller that is preconfigured to automatically deliver the cryopreservation solution to the red blood cells in accordance with the equation. The system may also support the recovery of thawed red blood cells by diluting the red blood cells and washing them of the cryopreservative. Again, the system preferably adjusts the delivery rate of a dilution solution so as to prevent osmolarity shock of the red blood cells during the recovery phase. The recovered red blood cells may be suspended in a preservation solution to further increase their shelf-life following the recovery phase.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2004Date of Patent: December 26, 2006Assignee: Haemonetics CorporationInventor: Etienne Pages
