Abstract: The disclosed substance restores normal co-expression and interaction between the LOX and NRAGE proteins. Particularly, an effective amount of the substance that modulates the expression and/or activity of LOX of SEQ ID NO: 1 and/or that modulates the expression and/or activity of NRAGE of SEQ ID NO: 2, may be used for the manufacture of a composition for modulating the interaction between the LOX and NRAGE proteins to regulate the balance between the cellular phenomena of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis, particularly in cases where the balance between these phenomena is disturbed, and especially in cases where the interaction between LOX and NRAGE is absent or altered. The invention makes it possible especially to treat and/or prevent skin ageing, lichen planus, graft-versus-host reaction (GVH), eczema, psoriasis and a cancer, particularly an epithelial cancer and more particularly a cutaneous epithelial cancer of basocellular or spinocellular type.

Abstract: A metabolic syndrome relieving agent that is free from a problem of side effects and can be taken for a long term is provided. Bergamottin is used as an agent for relieving a metabolic syndrome. Since bergamottin has functions of activating PPAR? and PPAR?, promoting the secretion of adiponectin in adipocytes and inhibiting the generation of VLDLs in hepatic cells, it is possible to prevent or treat diseases such as insulin resistance, hyperinsulinism, type 2 diabetes, obesity, visceral fat obesity, hypertension, hyperlipemia, arteriosclerosis and the like and thus prevent or treat the metabolic syndrome. Also, as understood from the fact that citrus fruits such as a grapefruit or the like containing bergamottin have been eaten for many years, they have no problems in terms of safety and have a low calorie content, and therefore, they can be taken for a long term.

Abstract: An antioxidant material of the present invention contains flavonoid aglycon and vitamin C. The flavonoid aglycon is eriodictyol and/or diosmetin obtained by treatment of a raw material containing flavonoid glycoside derived from lemons, limes, or sudachis to form the aglycones thereof. It is preferred that this antioxidant material be produced through a step of mixing the flavonoid aglycon and the vitamin C after the treatment to form the aglycones. The treatment to form the aglycones is glycosidase treatment using a ?-glycosidase derived from a microorganism of the genus Aspergillus or Penicillium multicolor, or microbial fermentative treatment using a microorganism of the genus Aspergillus. An anti-deterioration agent and a food or beverage of the present invention contain the antioxidant material.
