Abstract: Borate-diol reaction products for wound healing are disclosed. The product is obtained by reacting 0.01-1% by weight of borate with 1-10% by weight of a mixture polyvinyl alcohols. A 1% of the polyvinyl alcohols have viscosities of 25-30 mPa s and 3-10 mPa s.
Abstract: Water-soluble borate-polyol complexes are useful as buffers and/or antimicrobials in aqueous ophthalmic compositions, including those containing polyvinyl alcohol. These compositions have greater antimicrobial activity than comparable compositions containing typical borate buffers and unexpectedly increase the antimicrobial efficacy of other antimicrobial agents when used in combination. In addition, use of the borate-polyol complexes avoids the incompatibility problem typically associated with the combination of borate buffer and polyvinyl alcohol; therefore, the compositions disclosed herein may also contain polyvinyl alcohol.

Abstract: Dendritic polymer conjugates which are useful drug delivery systems for carrying platinum containing anti-tumor agents to malignant tumors are prepared by obtaining a dendritic polymer having functional groups which are accessible to a platinum containing compound capable of interacting with the functional groups, contacting the dendritic polymer with the platinum containing compound, and reacting the dendritic polymer with the platinum containing compound. The dendritic polymer platinates may be administered intravenously, orally, parentally, subcutaneously or topically to an animal having a malignant tumor in an amount which is effective to inhibit growth of the malignant tumor. The dendritic polymer platinates exhibit high drug efficiency, high drug carrying capacity, good water solubility, good stability on storage, reduced toxicity, and improved anti-tumor activity in vivo.
Abstract: A physiologically acceptable composition, in particular a cosmetic composition, comprising at least one liquid fatty phase which comprises (i) at least one structuring polymer having a polymer skeleton which comprises at least one hydrocarbon-based repeating unit comprising at least one hetero atom; and (ii) at least one pasty fatty substance.
Abstract: An antimicrobial material is described which can be used to form on the surface on a substrate a non-leaching antimicrobial coating or layer which kills microorganisms on contact. The non-leaching antimicrobial coating or layer is a unique combination of an organic matrix immobilized on the surface of the substrate to having biocidal metallic materials non-leachably associated with the matrix. When a microorganism contacts the coating or layer, the biocidal metallic material is transferred to the microorganism in amounts sufficient to kill it. Methods of applying the coating or layer to a substrate also are provided.
