  • Patent number: 8110178
Abstract: A dental-plaque detection system and dental-plaque detection method which are excellent in the detection accuracy of dental plaques and also capable of improving the situation to stain sites other than dental plaques (such as interdental parts and gums) are provided. The dental-plaque detection system includes a dental-plaque staining agent, which contains at least one selected from yellow pigment of beni-koji, turmeric extracts, and curcumin; and a light-emitting apparatus, which outputs light having a wavelength within a range of 250 to 500 nm to an object in the oral cavity where the dental-plaque staining agent is attached. The dental-plaque detection method includes attaching a dental-plaque staining agent, which contains at least one selected from yellow pigment of beni-koji, turmeric extracts, and curcumin onto an object in the oral cavity; and thereafter irradiating light having a wavelength within a range of 250 to 500 nm onto the object.

  • Patent number: 7912265
Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method of intra-oral analysis for measuring plaque removal is disclosed. The system includes hardware for real-time image acquisition and software to store the acquired images on a patient-by-patient basis. The system implements algorithms to segment teeth of interest from surrounding gum, and uses a real-time image-based morphing procedure to automatically overlay a grid onto each segmented tooth. Pattern recognition methods are used to classify plaque from surrounding gum and enamel, while ignoring glare effects due to the reflection of camera light and ambient light from enamel regions. The system integrates these components into a single software suite with an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) that allows users to do an end-to-end run of a patient record, including tooth segmentation of all teeth, grid morphing of each segmented tooth, and plaque classification of each tooth image.

  • Publication number: 20080260652
Abstract: An objective of the present invention is to provide a composition for dyeing dental plaque for evaluation of dental caries activity that is capable of simultaneously dyeing dental plaque and evaluating dental caries activity, and which can evaluate thick dental plaque more accurately than the conventional technique. The composition for dyeing dental plaque for evaluation dental caries activity comprises: a blue pigment being dissolved in water and having a color tone not changing at pH 7 or less; a red pigment being dissolved in water at pH more than 4.5 but not dissolved in water at pH 4.5 or less, and having a color tone not changing at pH 4.5 or less; and sugar. The content of sugar is preferably 1 to 50 weight parts to the total of 1 weight part of contents of the blue pigment and the red pigment, and ratio of contents of the blue pigment and the red pigment is preferably 1:3 to 3:1.

  • Patent number: 7182935
Abstract: The present invention deals with a composition for evidencing bacterial plaque based on natural colorants comprising at least one concentrated solution of natural colorant selected from the group consisting of colorants extracted from the aai (Euterpe oleracea) and colorants extracted from urucum (Bixa orellana), in a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle and, optionally, acceptable pharmaceutical additives. Preferentially, in the case of the aai solution, the concentration varies from 60 to 95% of concentrated extract, whilst for the urucum solution, the concentration varies between 56 and 90% of concentrated extract. Also preferentially, in solutions containing a mixture of the extracts, these will be present in a proportion that varies from 10:1 to 1:1.
