This includes a locking member which is manually moveable in pivotal fashion upon one connector into and out of a locking position with the other connector.Opposing surfaces of the locking member and the other connector relatively move across each other during movement of the locking member while offering sufficiently low resistance to movement to allow for manual operation. During transfer of the material into the mould, the opposing surfaces are urged together by moulding pressure to increase resistance to movement of the locking member out of the locking position. In preferred constructions, the locking member has a cam surface which ensures the need for a progressively increasing unlocking force to enable release of the locking member during transfer of the mouldable material.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for continuous distribution of a latex or urethane foam composition on a movable substrate to produce a foamed sheet material such as a foam backed carpet. The distribution apparatus comprises a generally cylindrically shaped rotatable member and at least two attached distribution means which may take the form of either modified doctor rolls or modified doctor blades. The distribution surface of each of these distribution means may differ and may be either smooth or patterned with a variety of grooves or serrations thereby providing means for producing foamed sheet materials with surfaces which are either planar or patterned with ridges and valleys. Means are also provided to readily change the thickness of the distributed foam and for oscillating the distribution apparatus to produce a surface with wavy as opposed to linear patterns of ridges and valleys. All of these operations may be accomplished without interrupting the continuous process.

  • Patent number: 4323415
Abstract: A plurality of reinforced plastic parts are simultaneously molded from separate bundles of resin impregnated strands wound about individual frame sections of a substantially planar frame assembly. A loading station includes a dual-acting elongated carrier engaging the multi-sectioned frame assembly and initially rotatable to wind the bundle of strands thereon. Subsequent reciprocation of the carrier delivers the wound frame assembly to a molding station provided with a plurality of mating pairs of molded sections and having displaceable frame supporting and bundle clamping assemblies for engaging the wound frame assembly and severing opposite ends of the bundles as the mold sections close within the individual frame sections.

  • Patent number: 4295813
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mounting thermoplastic materials directly upon a string medium. A hot runner system or three-plate mold provides the cavities for integrating the molten thermoplastic material and string medium. Molten thermoplastic is injected at a plurality of input apertures along a bifurcated mold, the bifurcated mold having complementary cavities joined by subrunners to transmit the molten thermoplastic material into each cavity. Each cavity is adapted to form a member which is to be permanently affixed on the string medium and includes aligned channels for receiving the stringed medium prior to injection of the molten thermoplastic material. The stringed medium is disposed within the channels prior to injection of the molten thermoplastic material. Under appropriate temperature and pressure conditions, the injected thermoplastic runner flows into subrunners filling each cavity of the bifurcated mold, thermoplastic bodies forming about the stringed medium in a permanent manner.
