Abstract: A method for repairing a crack in a structure includes mounting a manifold to the structure around the crack. The structure has a nonplanar surface contour that surrounds the crack. The manifold has a base portion, a cover portion, and a plug. The base portion has a grip surface configured to conform to the nonplanar surface contour of the structure. The cover portion is connected to the base portion, and has an injection port and a vent port in fluid communication with a channel aligned to the crack. The injection port transfers a bonding material into and out of the channel. The plug closes and opens the vent port. The method includes filling the channel with the bonding material to direct the bonding material into the crack, and draining the bonding material from the manifold.

  • Patent number: 7900655
Abstract: A method for repairing and reinforcing a pipeline includes covering a defect in a pipeline section with a composite wrap, isolating the wrap from the ambient environment, and applying a compressive force on the wrap so that the pressure on the wrap is substantially equal to the pipeline pressure. Isolating the wrap involves the use of a housing having a cavity that substantially conforms to the shape of the wrapped section. The cavity may contain a pressurized gas or liquid. Because the pressure acting on the surface of the wrap is at least substantially equal to the pressure of the pipeline section, the wrap cures as if the pipeline is at zero pressure. Once the wrap has effectively cured, the compressive force may be relieved and the housing removed. The composite is now under load and is immediately sharing load with the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 6500366
Abstract: Despite the disadvantage of reflexing a windshield, and consuming a multiple of the time taken with a single viscosity resin repair; it is generally accepted that most windshield repairs should utilize multiple viscosity resins. The multiple injection head not only eliminates the disadvantages associated with using resins of different viscosities, but additionally produces a smoother and stronger repair. The multiple injection head for injection of resins having different viscosities into a chip/crack comprises: a) a plunger housing having two upright cylindrical openings therethrough, each opening having an upper internally threaded portion and a lower chamber portion; and, b) two generally cylindrical plungers each having an upper portion adapted to be hand turned, and an intermediate portion matingly threaded with the openings.

  • Patent number: 6485281
Abstract: The invention relates to repair devices for repairing impact resistant glass such as windshields and vertical glass. The repair device can be used to repair many types of damage to glass including cracks, bulls-eye breaks, star breaks, and angle wing breaks. For repairing breaks, the repair device removes air from the break before the resin is applied to the air-evacuated break. For repairing cracks, the repair device pushes resin into the crack while the device is slid along the crack. The repair device has a piston assembly including a piston, a piston casing, and a piston casing receiver; a mounting bracket; and a suction unit, including a manual vacuum pump. A resin is loaded into the piston assembly and delivered to the break or crack by hydraulic pressure, pneumatic pressure, and/or vacuum mode.

Abstract: The disclosed methods and systems for inspecting and repairing vessels include a laser used to project a laser beam into a hot furnace or vessel, a laser reader to measure a point cloud formed when the laser light reflects from the wall of the furnace, means for selecting those points in the cloud that are more relevant, and using the points to produce a 3D image that corresponds to the geometry of the interior of the furnace or vessel. The disclosed systems and methods further include means for comparing the 3D geometric data corresponding to the interior of the vessel with 3D geometric data provided as a reference, generating a 3D repair trace based on the comparison, and controlling a spray gun for applying refractory material according to the trace by taking into account a set of physical variables related to the vessel and the refractory material.

  • Patent number: 6422849
Abstract: The present invention employs an injector base which provides a platform for the components of the overall injector tool. Connected to the injector base is a suction cup which is used to attach the injector tool to the windshield. Mounted on the injector base are two stabilizers, which allow the base to be stabilized for movement against or relative to the windshield, and an injector shell for applying vacuum, pressure and resin to the windshield crack. The injector shell includes internal to it a bore with a notched injector rod, through which resin is applied to the crack under pressure. At the bottom of the injector shell is an injector tip which is a rubber like material which is place around the crack to be filled and at the top of the injector shell is a handle which is threaded onto the injector shell by turning the handle clockwise places the area just above the crack under pressure and by turning the handle counter-clockwise places the area above the crack under negative pressure or in a vacuum.

Abstract: An assembly held down with suction cups repairs damage to an automobile windshield and the like. The rod of an extrusion assembly pushes liquefied resin through the interior of a tube and out the end thereof into the damaged area. The tube, jacketed by a vacuum container supplied by a vacuum pump, may be advanced to tightly contact a compression grommet shaped to seal off part of the vacuum created therein. Once that is done, partial withdrawal of the extrusion rod strengthens the vacuum. Certain obstructions, or stops, are situated to prevent damage to the windshield which might otherwise occur if the assembly were advanced too tightly against the windshield.

Abstract: The present invention is a new resin chamber construction, a kit and method for the repair of large selection of breaks in a lens or an automobile light bulb housing and even plate glass. The kit and method enable an inexpensive in situ repair including a bead overriding the break substantially maintaining light diffusions patterns. The bead forms an environmentally impervious repair which can match the color of the housing or lens including a substantially matching light diffusion pattern to diffuse light substantially similar to that of the unbroken article. The kit includes parts enclosable in a blister pack. The blister cover may include a resin chamber construction which can be cut out from it.

  • Patent number: 6231333
Abstract: An apparatus and method utilize vacuum injected molding of a liquid in a plurality of mold cells for solidification therein. An injection head includes spaced apart vacuum and injection slots positionable atop a mold plate in flow communication with the mold cells therein. Relative axial sliding is effected between the injection head and the mold plate for sequentially evacuating gas from the mold cells using a continuous vacuum followed in turn by sequentially injecting into the evacuated mold cells the liquid from a continuous source thereof. Sliding of the injection head over the mold plate automatically provides self valving for sequentially evacuating and filling the mold cells from the same side of the mold plate. In a preferred embodiment, the vacuum and injection slots are linked together at the mold plate so that surface tension of the liquid restrains flow of the liquid from the injection slot to the vacuum slot while allowing gas flow therebetween for effecting the vacuum in the mold cells.
