  • Patent number: 5401156
Abstract: An automatic filling machine for forming, sizing, transferring and inserting a food product portion into a container. The machine has forming chambers that are expandable to facilitate receiving a food product in bulk and are contractible to define a column having a cross section mating that of a container to be filled. The chamber is expanded to receive a quantity of a food product that is to be inserted into a container. The chamber is contracted to form the food product received therein into a column as defined by the contracted chamber. An upper plunger is provided to force and compress the formed food product column into a sizing apparatus. A pressure switch controls the compressive force applied to the food product column to provide consistency between sized portions of the food product.

Abstract: A metal shavings and chips compactor for extruding oil from metal chips and shavings and compacting the metal into easily transportable pellets. A compactor cylinder contains a piston and has an opening through which an auger feeds metal chips and shavings. A gate closes an end of the cylinder. A first hydraulic drive drives the piston under low pressure to close the opening and apply a first compacting pressure on the metal to form a loosely compacted pellet in the cylinder. High pressure then operates the piston to form a compact metal pellet substantially void of interstices. A second hydraulic drive opens the gate; the piston is operated at low pressure to discharge the compact metal pellet from the chamber and oil is collected below the cylinder. The compacting pressures are achieved through mechanical advantages provided by the size of the piston to that of the first hydraulic drive.

Abstract: Continuous strands of color concentrate are metered into the feed zone of a screw-melter polymer extruder where they are cut into pellets by the shearing action of the flights of a rotating screw against the extruder housing. These pellets are mixed within the extruder with a thermoplastic polymer to be colored and this mixture is then melted and extruded into a useful article, for example, a fiber for textile or carpeting end-use.Additionally, color concentrates can be first formed into continuous strands and stored conveniently on a spool for subsequent metering into the polymer extruder.

Abstract: The apparatus for extrusion of a thermoplastic material comprises an extruder with an extruder screw and an extruder housing with a feed opening, a feed device, a drive with a variable speed motor and a regulating device cascade for the mass temperature. The regulating device cascade has a plurality of tempering zones, at least one mass temperature detector and at least one tempering device. One tempering zone connected directly to the feed opening is part of the regulating device cascade and the temperature in the one tempering zone is corrected by a set value during a mass temperature variation. To provide a temperature regulation range which does not experience disturbing decreases, the tempering zone at the feed opening has only a cooling device and has a grooved sleeve. The feed device is a gravity feed device and belongs to an additional regulating loop which controls the rotational speed of a variable speed motor.

The site of impact of the slag is approximately at the uppermost point of the cooling drum. In order to ensure the vitrification of the slag with the flowing of molten slag off the cooling drum being reliably prevented, and an economic production of solidified slag being ensured, the recesses are separated by webs in the circumferential direction of the cooling drum and in the end region of the cooling drum are designed to be closed in the axial direction thereof. A plurality of cooled counter rolls contacting the webs by their surfaces and aligned with their axes parallel to the cooling drum are provided.
