A housing surrounds upper and lower crushers that break down the EPS pieces in to progressively smaller pieces before depositing them through a screen that selectively prevents pieces above a predetermined size from passing. Below the screen, the small EPS pieces fall into a heated extruding mechanism that melts the pieces into a liquid and urges the liquid forward by means of an Archimedian screw to a nozzle, through which the reconstituted EPS is extruded for collection and reuse.

  • Patent number: 7553439
Abstract: A mold transfer assembly is described that upon placement or construction along a region of an injection molding press, readily receives and retains mold(s) used in the press, and when not in use can be stored below the floor. The mold transfer assembly includes a mold receiving member that is positionable between an extended or raised state, at which the member is at a position, orientation, and height suitable for receiving a mold or set of molds from the press, and a retracted position at which the member is positioned under the floor. This configuration and positioning ability enables greater amounts of floor space to be used when the mold transfer assembly is not in use. Also described is a molding platen having a selectively positionable mold support ledge that enables molds of different sizes to be used in a single press.

Abstract: A safer safety door, provided at low cost and imposing little burden on an operator. A primary safety door with a top and a secondary safety door are provided on a clamping unit. The primary safety door and the secondary safety door abut each other at abutting portions provided on each safety door. The secondary safety door has an engaging member that swings along a guide member. The engaging member has a hinge bent in one direction. When both safety doors are closed, the primary safety door can be freely opened and closed independently. When the secondary safety door is opened, both safety doors are linked together and move as a single body. In the state where the primary and secondary safety doors are opened separately, when the primary safety door is moved to be closed, the hinge member bends and both safety doors are linked together as a unit.

Abstract: A method and associated apparatus for forming a composite structural member from a charge are provided. The charge can be disposed on a first die of the apparatus and formed to a desired configuration defined by a recess of the die by inserting a second die or a tool into the recess. In some cases, the first die can include two portions that are adjustable in a transverse direction so that the recess can be opened by the insertion of the second die or tool. The second die or tool can be a substantially rigid member or an inflatable bladder. In either case, the charge can be disposed on the first die, formed, and then further processed on the first die, thereby facilitating indexing of the charge for each operation.
