Patent number: 5304055Abstract: Three-dimensional food products such as crackers, cookies, puffed snacks, puffable glassy half-products, pet foods, pasta, confections such as chewing gum, and ready-to-eat cereals are produced on a mass production basis by feeding a dough or other food composition to a plurality of dies which shape it into ropes. The shaped extrudate ropes obtained from each die are cut by a cutting device which passes across only a portion of each of the orifices of the dies to partially cut each of the shaped extrudate ropes. The cutting device passes across the entire orifice of each of the dies to completely cut each of the partially cut extrudate ropes into individual pieces. The use of a multi-port extrusion die permits higher mass flow rates and thus greater dough piece production rates at lower cutter speeds. The use of multi-port extrusion and lower cutter speeds increases shape, definition, and accuracy of cutting and reduces scattering and deformation of the individual pieces.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1991Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Nabisco, Inc.Inventors: Bernhard H. Patent number: 5208050Abstract: A frozen yoghurt or ice cream dispensing system is presented. This system costs a small fraction that of the state of the art dispensing system, yet it is more versatile and puts out a better product, than the state of the art systems. A pre-formed "hard" frozen single serving of the base confection and fresh flavoring additives are loaded into an extrusion cup. At the actuation of a hand crank, or a power drive switch, a rotating cutter/sweeper on a retractable shaft, penetrates the confection charge and chops, softens, and mixes it. After this cutter engages the bottom of said cup, a piston traverses the loading cup bore, and the charge is extruded through a multi-aperture orifice, at the bottom of the extrusion cup. Shearing and additional mixing occurs, during the interaction of the rotating cutter and the multi-aperture orifice. An automatic rinse cycle is also built into the device, to eliminate flavor mixing between various batches of confections, and to save labor.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1989Date of Patent: May 4, 1993Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: 5114331Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for shrinking volumes of waste foamed plastics which have been used as packing materials. The waste plastic materials are thrown into a hopper provided on a crushing room having an opening in an upper part and tapering towards its lower part. A plurality of crushing vanes having a radius of gyration of length reaching within said hopper rotate in said crushing room, to break the foamed plastics into shreds. The broken plastics flow into a sending cylinder through a receipt opening toward the side wall of the crushing room, and are sent forward by screw vanes within the sending cylinder. Subsequently, the waste plastics are compressed in a compression cylinder connected in series to the sending cylinder and further softened and de-foamed by a heating cylinder and exhausted through a nozzle provided at the end of the housing cylinder. Extruded bar like shrinked resins are cut into chips by a rotating cutter and exhausted from the apparatus by air flow.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1991Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Assignee: Suruga Seiki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Umehara, Toshio Ikeda, Kazuhisa Urata

Patent number: 5094605Abstract: A device for the removal of a solidified mineral melt, termed flash, from the discharge end of a spout (3) of a transport channel (1) that is used to carry liquid mineral melt (2) to a mineral wool fiber producing unit (4). The device has a finger (9) made of a heat resistant material which is mounted to be quickly moved by a motor (10, 11) past and through liquid mineral melt (5) below and adjacent the spout (3) on the melt channel (1) in order to scrape off existing flash material from the discharge end of the melt channel (1). The device optionally may have a thermosensor, that emits an alarm signal, in case the temperature of the mineral melt at any point falls below a predetermined temperature, and/or a sensor designed to immediatley actuate the flash removal finger (9) as soon as a tendency to flash formation appears.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1991Date of Patent: March 10, 1992Assignee: Rockwool AktiebolagetInventor: Gunnar Hartung

Patent number: 5059266Abstract: An apparatus and a method for forming a three-dimensional article with photosetting or thermosetting material on the basis of a three-dimensional information on the article by means of an ink jet method. The material is jetted from at least one ink jet head to a stage and laminated thereon. The laminated material is exposed to light by a light source to be cured. In this process, a jetting direction of the material from the ink jet head to the stage and/or a jetting amount of the material jetted from the ink jet head is changed in accordance with the information by a control unit, thereby forming a solid article having a desired three-dimensional shape.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Mitsuo Yamane, Takashi Kawaguchi, Shigeru Kagayama, Shunichi Higashiyama, Keiko Suzuki, Jun Sakai, Mikio Imaeda, Kouji Inaishi

Patent number: 5015425Abstract: A manufacturing apparatus has a clean air supply means provided integrally with a part thereof for supplying clean air toward at least an area in which a workpiece exists, and an air discharge means disposed so as to face the clean air supply means across the workpiece and adapted to discharge the air to the outside of the apparatus. It is therefore possible for clean air to be constantly supplied to the workpiece area under positive pressure. Thus, there is no risk of dust generated not only inside but also outside the apparatus being moved to the vicinity of the workpiece. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent adhesion of dust to the surface of the workpiece by the apparatus alone and also possible to install the apparatus as desired.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1989Date of Patent: May 14, 1991Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Tsutomu Mimata, Toshihide Uematsu, Katsuhiro Tabata

Patent number: RE36572Abstract: A mold for producing foamed articles includes an upper mold and a lower mold which define a mold cavity. A vent is provided in communication with the mold cavity and has a vent passageway with an entrance and an exit. Structure is also provided for sealingly engaging the upper mold with the lower mold to cause, in cooperation with the predetermined size and shape of the vent passageway, liquid foam polymeric composition expanding inside the mold cavity to enter the vent entrance but to not exit from the vent exit to cause at least partial curing of the foam composition within the vent passageway. Preferably, the vent may be ribbon-shaped so that a ribbon of foamed composition adheres to the foamed article and may be folded flat against the article thus avoiding the labor step of trimming the flash from the product.
