  • Patent number: 4318678
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a plurality of trapezoidal dough pieces of the same orientation from a web of moving dough sheet includes a first rotatable cylindrical cutter producing two kinds of series of trapezoidal dough pieces arranged in opposite orientations, one kind of series of continuous, the other separated into pieces. The series which is continuous is sidetracked upwardly, cut into pieces by a second rotatable cylindrical cutter and then reversed by passing around a curved surface and following onto the moving surface on which the dough pieces of the other series are being conveyed. The fall causes all dough pieces to have the same orientation.

  • Patent number: 4300877
Abstract: A conventional underwater plastic pelletizer of the type using a rotatable knife hub is improved by securing to the knife hub a diverter plate for confining the flow of inlet water to the region adjacent the face of the die plate. The cutting knives are mounted on the rotating hub at a rake angle with respect to the hub center and tilted at an angle with respect to the surface of the die plate so as to effectively pull a cut pellet away from an extruded plastic strand, and the die plate is heated by an organic heat exchange fluid. The result is a substantial reduction in orifices frozen off by cooled polymer.

  • Patent number: 4270891
Abstract: An improvement in plastic film formation devices which utilizes a unique cutting and take-off assembly. Flattening, cutting, and paired turning rod assembly move about the axis of the extruded tubular section of plastic in such a manner so as to continuously slice a helical section from the tubular extrusion. The mechanical arrangement of the flattening, cutting, and paired turning rod assembly provides for changing the pitch of the helix cut by changing the position of said assembly relative to the draw rollers. This arrangement results in a simplified overall mechanical device which can randomize thickness variations across the width of sheets formed and also determine the width of said sheets. It also provides for more control of cooling air required to cool the extruded tube.

  • Patent number: 4258599
Abstract: In transporting brick elements cut from a continuous ribbon of brick-forming material to a transfer station for transfer onto pallets or the like, the ribbon is advanced towards the transfer station as the brick elements are cut from the leading end portion of the advancing ribbon. The cut brick elements are cut on an advancing cutting carriage and transferred therefrom onto a first conveyor means and from there to a second conveyor means, the first and second conveyor means advancing at a faster speed than the advancement of the ribbon. During the return of the cutting carriage, the first conveyor means moves at the same speed as the advancing ribbon while second conveyor means remains stationary to facilitate transfer of the cut brick elements onto pallets or the like.

  • Patent number: 4100841
Abstract: Disclosed is web handling apparatus for forming a sleeve of a shrinkable, cellular polymeric material from a predecorated web. The web is processed to provide (1) a partial-depth slit along the longitudinal dimension, and (2) cross-dimension pleats. Predecorated shrunken neck labels are formed from the web for overlying the neck and closure of the bottle and including a pilferproof feature. Such a label is formed from the processed web by cutting a blank having the cross pleats therein and winding the blank on a mandrel to overlap the ends and seam the overlap to make a sleeve. The sleeve is stripped onto the top neck end and over the closure of a bottle of room temperature to a label position and shrunken to a snug fit, the pleats absorbing wrinkles that occur in shrinking the material onto a "cold" bottle. The disclosure includes a novel machine for making the sleeve from a plastic web and placing it on the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4047865
Abstract: In manufacturing pressed boards, a flowable mixture of thermosetting resinous material and filler is blown through one or more nozzles into a converging throat formed by a pair of relatively inclined perforated conveyor bands in which the mixture is compacted into a continuous, coherent and self-supporting web by the application of heat to preset the resinous material thereof. The web is transversely cut into individually manipulable sections which are fed by a stack conveyor to a platen press, operating in step with the feeding and cutting mechanisms, for final setting of the resin.

  • Patent number: 4025263
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing thermoplastic duplication plates having a relief image transcribed thereto from a matrix which has a relief pattern in complemental relation to the transcribed relief image. To this end, the apparatus includes a hollow cylinder heated to a predetermined temperature and by which a thermoplastic resin sheet is, while clinging thereto, transported towards a transcription clearance. A movable platen supported for movement between standby and operated positions cooperates with the hollow cylinder to define the transcription clearance. During the transportation of the thermoplastic resin sheet towards the transcription clearance, it becomes substantially semi-fluidized so that, during passage of the thermoplastic resin sheet together with the matrix carried by the platen being moved towards the operated position, the thermoplastic resin sheet penetrates deep into indentations in the matrix which define the relief pattern, thereby completing a thermoplastic duplication plate.
