Opposed, Registering, Coacting Mold Cavities Patents (Class 425/395)
  • Patent number: 4659405
Abstract: This relates to the forging of web-like portions of components so as to increase the density thereof and to shape the material for various purposes. In one form of the invention forging is utilized to form an upstanding sealing rib without a material orientation of the plastic which would result in distortion of the material should it be subjected to retorting. In another form of the invention forge tooling is utilized to provide an element with a hinge strip wherein the core material is compressed without an undue internal stressing of the core material. Most particularly, the tooling is heated to provide a softening of the skin surfaces of the material thereby permitting relative movement of the material which is being forged with respect to the tooling and thereby an internal compressing of the material without shear stresses being developed therein. This abstract is not to be considered as limiting the claims of the application.

  • Patent number: 4639343
Abstract: A method of re-shaping polyimide and modified polyimide foam sheets into selected shapes. Polyimide foam sheets can be made by any of a number of methods, some of which produce sheets of selected thicknesses directly and others of which produce blocks or buns of foam which are sliced into sheets. A sheet is placed in a mold having the desired configuration, such as a half-pipe. The sheet is compressed to about 0 to 99% of the original thickness with heating of one or both major surfaces of the sheet to a temperature of from about 250.degree. to 320.degree. C. for about 0.5 to 5 minutes. Upon removal from the mold, the polyimide foam is found to be self-supporting and to have taken on the mold shape. A moisture impervious densified skin is found on the heated side(s).

  • Patent number: 4510113
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming belt sleeves having grooves provided in either or both of the inner and outer surfaces thereof. The manufacture includes the provision of a preform laminate on an inner mold and the forcible urging of a constrictable outer mold radially against the laminate at elevated temperatures so as to effect curing of the rubber of the laminate in accurate conformity to the grooved configuration of the inner and outer molds. The entire assembly is carried on a central support post. Pressure plates are provided for urging the constrictable outer mold radially inwardly as the result of threaded advance of nuts on the central post. The grooves in the mold surfaces may selectively be arranged to extend parallel or circumferentially of the central axis of the post as desired to form either longitudinally or transversely extending ribs, grooves, etc., in the formed sleeve belt.
