  • Publication number: 20100310703
Abstract: A drive and tilt system for a thermoforming press to simultaneously operate the vertical drive and angular tilt of a platen in the thermoforming press, employing a motor driven crank mechanism. The drive and tilt system provides for smooth, efficient and reliable cyclic operation at the high rate required in the thermoforming press. The drive and tilt system includes a drive mechanism, a lift mechanism, and tilt mechanism. The drive mechanism is powered by a drive motor, for rotating a lift shaft. The lift mechanism raises and lowers a tilt-able platen along with a carriage through the rotation of the lift shaft. The tilt mechanism is powered from a tilt motor mounted in the carriage. The tilt mechanism tilts the platen, which is also raised or lowered by the lift mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7704067
Abstract: A mold and a method for molding high strength, non-metallic fiber reinforced composite parts having a variety of (e.g., cylindrical) shapes that are lighter in weight than similar parts manufactured from metal. An unmolded non-metallic pre-form having long continuous fibers is placed around a mandrel, and a segmented, adjustable diameter compression ring is disposed in surrounding engagement with the pre-form at an upper position within an inwardly tapered compression ring support. The compression ring is formed from a plurality of loose compression ring segments that are initially spaced circumferentially from one another at the upper position of the compression ring support. The mandrel and the pre-form are first heated and then located in a press.

  • Publication number: 20020068108
Abstract: A press die composed of an upper die having a concave part (with the peripheral surface of the opening of said concave part functioning as a first blank pressing face), a lower die having a convex part (to form the blank into a desired form in cooperation with said concave part), and a blank holder (which has a second blank pressing face), said press die working in such a way that said first blank pressing face and said second blank pressing face hold a blank between them while permitting it to flow into said concave part during pressing, characterized in that at least either of said first blank pressing face and said second blank pressing face has a roughened surface with a plurality of striated projections which are formed in the direction inclined in a range of −25° to +25° (preferably approximately parallel) toward the circumferential direction of the edge of the opening of said concave part.

  • Publication number: 20010040161
Abstract: A container for holding food items and the like. The container comprises a base for holding the food item and a cover hingedly mounted to the base and movable between an open and closed position. The cover has a latch wipe opening that is sized to receive a tab extending from the base. The latch wipe opening has a generally rectangular shape. During the manufacturing process, the material in which the latch wipe opening is formed is pre-cooled to reduce the tendency of the latch wipe opening to deform. Further, the form against which the latch wipe opening is formed has a knurled portion that engages the container material above the latch wipe opening to further prevent the deforming of the latch wipe opening during manufacturing.

  • Patent number: 6146122
Abstract: A mold for molding a composite article has an upper half mold, a lower half mold having a base and a core mounted on the base, and a pressure plate. A plurality of holes are formed in the upper surface of the pressure plate, and springs are placed in the holes. A laminated sheet formed by laminating woven fabrics is placed on the core, and the pressure plate is put on the laminated sheet so as to press a part of the laminated sheet against the core by its weight without creasing the part of the laminated sheet. When joined to the lower mold, the upper mold compresses the springs to compress the part of the laminated sheet firmly between the pressure plate and the core, and then bends the laminated sheet along the side surfaces of the core so that the laminated sheet is shaped in a predetermined shape.

  • Patent number: 4979890
Abstract: In the manufacture of a padded element, such as a seat cushion for motor vehicles, the cushion cover of cloth, leather, synthetic material or the like is applied to the padding usually of expanded plastics material after having been formed to the shape of the surface of the padding by means of pressing in the metal die and the simultaneous application of steam. The flow of steam reaches the cover by passing through the lower part of the die and emerging from passages provided in the wall which is in contact with the material. The steam used during the operation of pressing of the material is drawn from a reservoir of pressurised steam, whose chamber is not in direct communication with the passages and whose body is of metal and is in a thermally conducting relationship with the wall of the die.

  • Patent number: 4959004
Abstract: An apparatus for the safe and efficient shaping of a heat-formable resilient material includes an upright male shaping member, a female molding member having a cavity adapted to matingly receive the upright male shaping member, a retractable hold-down knockout pin extending through the female molding cavity to a predetermined distance from the upright male shaping member when the pad-forming device is in the open position so that the resilient material can be inserted between the hold-down knockout pin and the upright male shaping member. The hold-down knockout pin moves away from the upright male shaping member to a retracted position when the pad-forming device is closed and advances towards the male shaping member to eject any shaped pads which might adhere to the female molding cavity while returning to the advanced position at a predetermined distance from the upright male shaping member.

  • Patent number: 4674972
Abstract: Apparatus for forming plastic articles by a thermoform process. A plastic sheet is supported between an upper female and lower male mold. The heater assembly is moved horizontally over the sheet which is heated and caused to conform to the lower molds shape when the upper mold is lowered thereabouts, thus forming the desired object. Vacuum means retain the formed object within the upper mold assembly during separation of the molds and deposits the formed object on the top of the heater assembly upon its repositioning over the lower mold to heat a subsequent sheet. The formed object is carried away from the molds on the top of the heater assembly upon subsequent horizontal retraction of the heater assembly from between the molds. An air jet from an orifice on the top surface of the heater assembly then propells the formed object onto a conveyor belt.
