Means To Create A Vacuum Or Apply Fluid Pressure Within A Press Forming Mold Patents (Class 425/405.1)
  • Publication number: 20080105996
Abstract: A reusable, low investment tool for making parts is made by a process in which a mixture of sand and an activator is applied as a layer onto which a printed resin is deposited to form a base and a pattern. A plurality of sidewalls may also be provided on the base using the same process. The tool is coated with a curable resin to form a protective shell. The reusable tool may be used as a dump box or as a vacuum forming tool for forming parts. A stamping die may be formed by drawing a vacuum through the sand layer as the resin coating is applied to more fully permeate the stamping die.

Abstract: A press for rigid foam sheets with continuous adjustment of the spacing between the two press plates (1,3), in particular for sandwich panels with an upper and lower outer layer and, located therebetween, a core of rigid polyurethane foam. The lower press plate (3) is here moved into a preselected position corresponding to the panel thickness to be foamed by means of synchronously rotating threaded lifting spindles (4), assisted by weight-compensating cylinders (5). Short-stroke cylinders (6) are provided between the heads of the threaded lifting spindles (4) and the lower press plate (3). Said short-stroke cylinders have the function of dissipating the moulding force which has arisen due to foaming by moving the press plate (3) a very small stroke downwards. It is also possible, instead of the short-stroke cylinders (6), to install an air cushion system, which has a stroke of approx. 1 mm, between the press plate and the heating plate. This stroke is sufficient to dissipate the foaming pressure.

In another embodiment, the high permeability layer is a fluid-impervious material with sporadic protrusions, and the reusable port-runner device is a flexible, silicone unit. Other embodiments are comprised of any combination thereof. Each embodiment is designed to minimize set-up times and to create a mold cavity with a low resistance to fluid flow through the application of pressure differentials.

Abstract: A mandrel-assisted resin transfer molding process and apparatus therefor provides a generally continuous, narrow annular channel between the perimeter of an inner male mold element and an outer female mold element. This channel allows air, heat and vapor to evenly escape and resin to outflow from the mold cavity everywhere around the edge of the part being molded. A very thin resin band forms in the channel is easily trimmed away, leaving the article completely finished on both sides and having a well defined edge that does not require shaping.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuously forming composites comprising filler materials and thermoactive materials, particularly waste cellulosic materials and waste thermoplastics, are described. One embodiment of the apparatus includes either a batchwise or continuous mixer, such as a cyclone, for forming mixtures comprising filler and thermoactive material. The mixtures are conveyed to a continuous consolidation apparatus. Alternatively, the mixtures may be densified in a densifying apparatus before entering the consolidation apparatus. The consolidation apparatus includes a hot-gas distribution system having plural paired gas cells, such as rollers or hoods, for applying hot air to the charge. A first cell of each pair applies gas to the mixture. The second cell of each pair operates at a pressure less than that of the first cell, thereby creating a pressure differential across the charge.

Abstract: A device for impregnating an insulation of a winding bar of an electric machine includes a container accommodating the winding rod and connected to a tank containing an impregnation agent. The container, which remains open during the impregnation process, is surrounded by an evacuation container to create a negative pressure within the container. To achieve a more rapid penetration of the impregnation agent and to simplify the overall process, a vacuum-tight sleeve acts as the container, the sleeve being encompassed by a pressure-resistant sleeve, and a conduit of an assembly that generates a vacuum leads into the interior of the sleeve. The impregnation agent is supplied with a pressure that is lower than the prevailing pressure in the pressure-resistant sleeve. The container can be a multi-part tool defining an interior for surrounding and accommodating the winding bar in a positive fit at least during an evacuation and impregnation process.
