Patent number: 4645631Abstract: Extrusion of a mixture of vegetable bits with a binder, particularly wood chips with a weather-resistant binder, involves precompressing in a compression chamber of an extrusion press the mixture by a compression stroke transverse to the extrusion axis, the compression stroke being delivered by at least one precompression piston. Prior to the precompression elongated bits of the mixture are acted on by an orienting influence so that the elongated bits are deposited substantially parallel to the extrusion axis. Patent number: 4639343Abstract: A method of re-shaping polyimide and modified polyimide foam sheets into selected shapes. Polyimide foam sheets can be made by any of a number of methods, some of which produce sheets of selected thicknesses directly and others of which produce blocks or buns of foam which are sliced into sheets. A sheet is placed in a mold having the desired configuration, such as a half-pipe. The sheet is compressed to about 0 to 99% of the original thickness with heating of one or both major surfaces of the sheet to a temperature of from about 250.degree. to 320.degree. C. for about 0.5 to 5 minutes. Upon removal from the mold, the polyimide foam is found to be self-supporting and to have taken on the mold shape. A moisture impervious densified skin is found on the heated side(s).Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1985Date of Patent: January 27, 1987Inventors: John V. Long, John Gagliani

Patent number: 4615857Abstract: Injection or transfer molding of plastic is performed in a manner that virtually eliminates flash. Deflection of the mold press is measured with the mold press in a clamping configuration. Then the support structure of the molds is arranged to apply an equal force to the mold face by configuring supporting pillars and bars such that they act as individual springs. Their spring constants and/or lengths are calculated to account for the actual deflection found in the mold press, thereby, producing a uniform pressure on the molds during clamping of the press.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1984Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventor: John Baird

Patent number: 4606717Abstract: An apparatus for the production of hollow bodies by blow molding is made up of a locking unit mounted on a bottom stand including a first and second mold support element, each carrying one half of a mold. The two mold support elements are kinematically coupled together by a synchronizing mechanism and fastened to guide spars, with the second mold support elements being displaceable parallel to the first mold support element. In order to prevent the deflection of the guide spars under the effect of the locking pressure leading to the gaping apart of the mold support elements, the locking unit includes a rigid support frame which relieves the bending stress on the guide spars. The guide spars carrying the locking unit are supported on the bottom stand in an axially displaceable manner.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1985Date of Patent: August 19, 1986Assignee: Krauss-Maffei AGInventors: Gerhard Polak, Norbert Dini

Patent number: 4599215Abstract: A hermetically sealed capsule (10) containing degased metal powder (11) is embedded in a soft metal flow die (20). Subsequently the flow die (20) is compressed in a cavity block, thereby compressing the metal powder (11) by the hydrostatic pressure of the flow die and simultaneously shaping the said powder. This results in the reforming of the structure right down to the interior of the particles with compression of up to 100%. The shaping process can be aided by moulding dies (17, 18) embedded in the flow die (10) around the capsule (10) at a distance from each other and, when closed, forming a cavity, the shape of which deviates from that of the original shape of the capsule (10). The capsule (10) containing the metal powder is formed during closure of the moulding cavity.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1984Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Inventors: Wilfried Smarsly, Karl J.
