  • Patent number: 7614870
Abstract: The present invention relates to an injection unit of a two-stage injection molding machine having an injection device and a meter device for providing plastic to the injection device. The injection motor of the injection device is secured to the base and does not move along with the injection linkage member so as to decrease the movement momentum and improve the injection response and acceleration capability. Additionally, the injection device can adopt a plurality of injection motors for meeting the injection capability requirement without employing high power injection motors. The length of the injection molding machines is relatively shortened, thus the problem of the prior arts is solved.

Resin melt pressure created by the gear pumps (15, 17) forces a piston inside the accumulator back to the desired position. The accumulators (31, 33) can also be used to maintain constant pressure in the feed stock. Resin can be recycled from the accumulators (31, 33) into the melt blender (11).

  • Patent number: 7014456
Abstract: A machine for processing individual food items comprises a mold plate having multiple longitudinally spaced transverse rows of cavities. The mold plate slides such that the rows of cavities sequentially communicate with a fill slot in a fill plate. Bulk food material fills the cavities and displaces air from them into a breather plate. The breather plate has one or more longitudinal grooves in a working surface. The fill plate has one or more longitudinal grooves in a working surface that communicate with the atmosphere. One or more vent holes in the mold plate communicate with the breather plate and fill plate grooves for all positions of the mold plate at which food material is filling a row of cavities. No air is trapped in the breather plate, and there is no buildup of air pressure that could create a friction force between the mold plate and the fill plate.

Abstract: A low-pressure mold valve assembly includes a coupler to removably attach a mix head to a mold assembly in an assembly line environment. A first piston which is rectilinear in cross section is movable within the first flow passage along a first axis by an actuator. A second piston is movable along a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis by a second actuator. After injection is complete, the second piston seals a mix chamber of the mix head while remnants of the matrix that remain in a flow passage are driven into the first flow passage by the piston. The first piston is then driven toward the mold port such that matrix remnants are further driven into the mold cavity. The coupler is thus cleared of remnants without flushing.

  • Patent number: 6926507
Abstract: The invention provides a blowing agent delivery system for introducing a blowing agent into a polymeric foam processing system. The delivery system is designed to discontinuously introduce blowing agent from a continuous source into polymeric material within an extruder. The system, thus, may improve control over blowing agent delivery in discontinuous polymer processing systems such as injection molding or blow molding. In some embodiments, the blowing agent delivery system selectively directs blowing agent flow from the source to the extruder barrel, or through a bypassing passageway. In this manner, blowing agent may be continuously supplied by the source but discontinuously injected into the extruder barrel. During use, the delivery system may cause blowing agent to flow through the bypassing passageway, for example, when the screw stops plasticating polymeric material.

Abstract: An injection molding apparatus includes an injection piston that is slidable within a nozzle having a movable valve gate pin. The injection piston is movable from a retracted position to an extended position in order to force melt towards a mold cavity. A valve is located at a forward end of the piston to selectively block communication between a recess, which is provided in an outer wall of the piston adjacent the valve, and a melt chamber of the nozzle. Movement of the injection piston from the retracted position to the extended position causes the valve to close so that the predetermined volume of melt located below the valve is forced into the mold cavity, when the valve gate pin opens the mold gate.

The melt reservoirs include actuatable work pistons for discharging the melt, wherein the work pistons can open and close the melt inlet openings in the melt reservoirs to divert the melt flow. The disclosed injection unit increases the total volume of bufferable melt and allows individual and separate adjustment of the reservoir volumes and the discharge velocity of the individual melt reservoirs. In addition, switching valves can be eliminated since the melt flow is switched by the work pistons.
