Abstract: A dope is prepared from TAC, solvent and the like. The dope is cast from a casting die (31) onto a belt (34) to form a casting film (69). The casting film (69) is peeled as a wet film (74) from the belt (34). The wet film (74) is transported to a tenter device (35), in which both side edge portions are clipped by tenter clips (100). The content of the remaining solvent in the wet film 74 is determined to 100 wt. % on dry basis. The tenter clips (100) (temperature, 40° C.) has a support surface (100a) for supporting the side edge portion of the wet film 74 thereon. A surface tension of the support surface (100a) is 3.1×10?2 N/m, a surface roughness Ra of the support surface (100a) is 0.3 ?m, and a surface hardness of the holding surface (100a) is 700 Hv. Therefore, the adhesion of the foreign materials is reduced. The wet film (74) is dried with stretching in the widthwise direction by the tenter device (35), so as to obtain a TAC film (82).

Abstract: BCF yarn is melt-spun, drawn and textured to provide morphologically stable BCF yarns. The yarn texturizing includes a relatively low efficiency fluid jet texturizer, that is a fluid jet texturizer operating at a sufficiently low fluid jet velocity and a sufficiently high fluid jet temperature to obtain a yarn skein shrinkage of less than about 0.50 inch, more preferably about 0.25 inch or less. Most preferably, the BCF yarns are formed of nylon-6 and exhibit an alpha-crystalline content of less than about 45%, and usually between about 45% to about 55%.

Abstract: Plastic moldings reinforced with long fibers are made without the risk of forming loops in a continuous thread or roving fed to a cutting unit at the end of a mold filling operation or tearing thereof during renewed start-up for the next molding filling operation, even at a relatively high take-off speed of the continuous thread. This is achieved by keeping the continuous thread permanently under tension pneumatically against the conveying direction. The device useful for carrying out this process is equipped with at least one tensioning air inlet in the guide for the continuous thread or roving.

  • Patent number: 6783722
Abstract: Spunbond nonwoven fabrics are produced with an apparatus which comprises a spinnerette having a plurality of orifices for extruding filaments; an attenuator for receiving and attenuating the filaments; and a collection surface upon which the filaments are deposited to form a nonwoven web. A filament diffuser is positioned between the attenuator and the collection surface in the path of filament travel. The diffuser comprises a pair of opposing divergingly arranged side walls and a pair of opposing end walls, these walls collectively defining filament passageway. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a flow of fluid is injected along the walls of the diffuser in the direction of filament travel. More particularly, fluid is injected along both the opposing divergingly arranged walls and the opposing ends walls which form the diffuser. In another aspect of the present invention, the filaments are electrostatically charged and a like electrical charge is imparted to the walls of the diffuser.

  • Patent number: 6737009
Abstract: A system and process for producing spunbond nonwoven fabric in which two or more polymeric components are separately melted and are separately directed through a distribution plate configured so that the separate molten polymer components combine at a multiplicity of spinnerette orifices to form filaments containing the two or more polymer components. Multicomponent filaments are extruded from the spinnerette orifices into a quench chamber where quench air is directed from a first independently controllable blower and into contact with the filaments to cool and solidify the filaments. The filaments and the quench air are directed into and through a filament attenuator and the filaments are pneumatically attenuated and stretched. The filaments are directed from the attenuator into and through a filament depositing unit and are deposited randomly upon a moving continuous air-permeable belt to form a nonwoven web of substantially continuous filaments.

  • Patent number: 6716014
Abstract: A melt spinning apparatus for spinning a synthetic yarn, wherein the yarn is formed by combining a plurality of filaments and wound to a package by means of a takeup device downstream of the spinning apparatus. Downstream of the spinneret, an inlet cylinder with a gas-permeable wall and a cooling tube are arranged. The cooling tube connects to a suction device such that an air stream forms in the cooling tube in the direction of the advancing yarn. This air stream assists the advance of the filaments and leads to a delayed cooling. To ensure adequate cooling of the filaments within the cooling zone, an air supply device is provided for generating an additional cooling air stream which flows in the axial direction of the cooling tube for cooling the filaments downstream of the inlet to the cooling tube.

The fiber and/or filaments used to form the nonwoven fabric are deposited on a forming surface in a controlled orientation using application of an electrostatic charge to the fibers and/or filaments in combination with directing them to an electrode deflector plate while under the influence of the charge. The plate may be made up of teeth with a separation and angle orientation that are selected in accordance with the desired arrangement of the fibers and/or filaments in the nonwoven web. As a result, properties of the web such as relative strengths in the machine direction and cross-machine direction can be controlled.

Abstract: Melt blown or spun bond nonwoven webs are formed by flowing fiber-forming material through a die cavity having a substantially uniform residence time and then through a plurality of orifices to form filaments, using air or other fluid to attenuate the filaments into fibers and collecting the attenuated fibers as a nonwoven web. Each die orifice receives a fiber-forming material stream having a similar thermal history. The physical or chemical properties of the nonwoven web fibers such as their average molecular weight and polydispersity can be made more uniform. Wide nonwoven webs can be formed by arranging a plurality of such die cavities in a side-by-side relationship. Thicker or multilayered nonwoven webs can be formed by arranging a plurality of such die cavities atop one another.
