  • Patent number: 7186107
Abstract: A pipe for supplying a dope to a co-casting die consists of a gooseneck portion connected to a feed block of the co-casting die, and a straight pipe portion connected to the gooseneck portion. The gooseneck portion has a radius of curvature of 50 mm to 400 mm, and the straight pipe portion forms an angle of 0 to 20 degrees to the horizontal plane. Venting valves are opened up at the beginning of dope feeding. and are closed to some extent as the dope comes out. After the air is completely vented out, the venting valves are completely closed. Thereby, an air collection is completely let out from the pipe, a plastic web discharged from die lips of the co-casting die would not contain any air bubbles, it is prevented that the web splashes to put on the die lips, causing streaks on the produced film.

  • Patent number: 7114935
Abstract: The present invention provides for proper air bleed without using air wicking fabric strips and/or the perforated polyethylene material or the like. Instead, an inside surface of a curing envelope is molded with a unique embossed pattern which is designed to channel to a vacuum valve, expeditiously, all the air being evacuated from between the outer surface of a tire and an inner surface of the envelope. Additionally, a valve base area is recessed so as to allow the air channels to open directly into the valve base area during evacuation. The envelope is also designed to accept various styles and designs of air valves. Another unique feature is the creation of a decorative pattern on the inside shoulder area of a tire by transfer of a surface feature from the envelope interior. This pattern provides a significant improvement in the appearance of the finished tire.

  • Patent number: 6830443
Abstract: In order to prevent the formation of flash and air bubbles on a gasket used to seal a filter element when the filter element is mounted in a housing to filter a fluid, a molding apparatus comprises first and second mold components cooperating to define a mold cavity positioned around the filter media formed by their respective mold surfaces and adapted to receive an expandable material forming the sealing gasket. The mold cavity includes a substantially semi-spherical ridge portion having an apex. The ridge portion of the mold cavity is formed by both the first and second mold components abutting each other at the apex of the ridge portion of the mold cavity along a mold line oriented at an angle to a central axis of symmetry of the mold apparatus. Moreover, mold surfaces of the mold components have upwardly sloping ramp surfaces for preventing trapped air bubbles.

  • Patent number: 6827569
Abstract: A mold vent and method. The vent has expanding passages. A preferred vent comprises an insert that has a plurality of passages. One insert comprises a grate formed of a plurality of portions that interleave fingers forming vent passages therebetween that preferably are vent slots. Supports can be disposed between fingers. The grate preferably is discharge-machined from a blank cut from stock made material that preferably is non-porous and smooth. The grate can be mounted in a pocket in the mold cavity or carried by a movable pin. The grate can be used in a system that includes valving, a source of fluid, and, if needed, a source of vacuum to help facilitate venting by drawing atmosphere out of the cavity during molding. The grate can also be used to introduce fluid into the mold that can be foaming moldable material or a heat transfer medium.
