  • Patent number: 4582471
Abstract: In the manufacture of a molded article from a ceramic material, such as a porcelain substance, in which a design or decorative substance is applied to at least one of the surfaces of the article, a certain amount of the ceramic material is introduced into a mold cavity formed between mold parts. The material is distributed in the cavity and then is pressed. The decorative substance is applied to the surface of at least one of the mold parts before the parts are closed to form the mold cavity. The decorative substance is then transferred to the molded article during the pressing operation.

  • Patent number: 4565664
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a process of manufacturing drawn tubing, in which steps of applying a lubricant to the surface of a bottomed blank fitted on a mandrel, pushing out the mandrel to draw the blank through a die, and pulling in the drawn blank together with the mandrel out of the die are repeated in the recited order. The drawn blank is turned a predetermined angle, e.g., 180 degrees on the axis thereof during each of the repeating steps i.e., during or after the pulling step. As a result, the lubricant can be applied to another portion of the blank surface at a second or subsequent applying step so that the working conditions which might otherwise become different to cause the drawn blank to have a locally irregular or offset thickness can be made uniform in the circumferential direction of the blank.

  • Patent number: 4418085
Abstract: A process for automatically and continuously manufacturing lasagne by forming a continuous sheet of pasta which contains first through fifth longitudinal surface area rows; passing the pasta under a first sauce dispenser which dispenses different kinds of sauces onto the middle three surface area rows of the sheet of pasta; folding the respective outer surface area rows over the respective next inner surface area rows; dispensing additional sauce over an exposed surface of one of the outer folded surface area rows; and further folding the sheet of pasta so that the first through fifth surface area rows are vertically aligned. Subsequently, the sheet of pasta is cut into predetermined sizes, and each predetermined size is placed into its own corresponding food tray. Thereafter, each predetermined size of lasagne is frozen. This process allows lasagne to be efficiently and quickly produced at a relatively low cost.

  • Patent number: 4354810
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for continuous distribution of a latex or urethane foam composition on a movable substrate to produce a foamed sheet material such as a foam backed carpet. The distribution apparatus comprises a generally cylindrically shaped rotatable member and at least two attached distribution means which may take the form of either modified doctor rolls or modified doctor blades. The distribution surface of each of these distribution means may differ and may be either smooth or patterned with a variety of grooves or serrations thereby providing means for producing foamed sheet materials with surfaces which are either planar or patterned with ridges and valleys. Means are also provided to readily change the thickness of the distributed foam and for oscillating the distribution apparatus to produce a surface with wavy as opposed to linear patterns of ridges and valleys. All of these operations may be accomplished without interrupting the continuous process.

  • Patent number: 4340343
Abstract: A food preparation machine primarily designed for the production of the Italian potato based delicacy gnocchi and characterized by an inclined flouring ramp, a motor driven roller located under the lower end of the ramp, a deflection plate located proximate the roller, and a dough extruder for depositing dough plugs near the top of the ramp so that they roll and slide down the ramp into abutment with the deflection plate and the roller. As the roller is rotated the dough plugs are squeezed through a gap between the roller and the lower edge of the deflection plate to take on the characteristic form of gnocchi. A flouring mechanism is provided to flour the parts of the machine that come into contact with the dough, including the ramp and a rotating knife blade which cuts the extruded dough into the plugs. The roller is threaded from both ends with opposing threads so that the plugs are urged towards the center of the roller as it is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4105383
Abstract: Brick forms on stackable pallets are delivered in succession by a conveyor belt beneath the outlet of a clay hopper equipped with an internal vibrator and a clay feed auger. A pivoted flapper blade trips over each brick form divider wall and assures that the clay is forced first into the forward part of each mold cavity. Water is supplied to the front face of the flapper blade. Immediately beyond the hopper outlet, a diaper assembly having a mechanical vibrator engages each moving form to vibrate the clay and promote random clay crystal orientation. A strike blade on the diaper assembly removes excess clay and water from the top of each moving form. Water is also supplied constantly to the strike blade.
