Opposed Plunger Patents (Class 425/DIG35)
  • Patent number: 5698238
Abstract: A rotary tabletting machine, for compressing powder or granular material, includes a rotating turret (3) supporting a ring-shaped member (5) in which openings (2) are made to be filled with the powder or granular material, with pairs of punches moved by driving means (10) which engage pairs of rollers (41) joined to the punches. The punches (20,30) have operative heads (21,31) adapted to compress the material inside the openings (2), and outer mobile heads (24,34), made of wear resistant material. The pairs of opposite punches (20,30) feature also, for each of the punches (20,30), respective tightness seals (25,35).

  • Patent number: 5632794
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and an apparatus for forming glass articles from molten glass involving differentially cooling a plunger for press forming glass articles in a cooperative forming mold. More specifically, the method involves introducing cooling fluid into an inlet cooling cavity located in the upper portion of the plunger and causing the cooling fluid to flow from the inlet cooling cavity into a cooling passage located along the periphery of the nose portion and thereafter to flow into a outlet cooling cavity located in the upper portion of the plunger and thereafter exhausting the spent cooling fluid from the plunger.

  • Patent number: 4943227
Abstract: A tablet making machine consisting of a turret, which rotates relative to its axis, containing a coaxial cylindrical chamber closed at the inside end and supplied with material in a powder or granular form, an annular plate locked to the turret in which there are cavities whose axes are parallel to the turret axis, equidistant from the turret axis and angularly equidistant, opposing heads of a pair of corresponding punches occupying each cavity; the punches being axially guided by housings made in the turret and movable upwardly and downwardly to determine the mutual distance between the working heads, the cavities being infed with material through corresponding infeed channels, connecting the cavities with the chamber, in an equal number of radial directions with respect to the axis of the turret.

  • Patent number: 4475880
Abstract: A tabletting machine having a ring-shaped die table rotatable about a generally upwardly extending axis and having dies arranged at a die surface. Punches supported in the die table and reciprocably driven with respect to the dies cooperate with punches semi-rigidly mounted on a rotatable hub to form and eject tablets from the dies. The hub is rotated to move the punches mounted thereon in a circular path to enter and exit the dies in a predetermined sequence. Individual pump means associated with the punches in the die table and means for catching and extracting loose tabletting material falling from the dies serve to reduce contamination of the many parts of the machine by the tabletting material.

  • Patent number: 4274276
Abstract: A method for making a centrosymmetrical spider of a universal joint by extrusion molding involves pressing both end faces of a cylindrical blank the same distance towards the center of the blank to force the blank material radially outwards from the center of the cylindrical blank in a stream which is symmetrical relative to the two end faces and into a cavity of a split mold. Also disclosed is a molding apparatus for practicing the method. The apparatus includes a floating mold. One end of the apparatus can be rigidly fixed to a press for operating the punches which provide the extrusion pressure.

  • Patent number: 4240780
Abstract: The materials to be sintered are placed in a deformable container which is in turn placed within a non-deformable treatment module equipped with heating means. The temperature of the container is increased under constant pressure until commencement of sintering. The temperature and pressure of the materials are increased simultaneously until sintering conditions are achieved, then maintained at a level stage for a predetermined period of time. The pressure is then reduced to the normal value while maintaining the temperature. The temperature is finally reduced to the room-temperature value.

  • Patent number: 4220442
Abstract: The invention includes apparatus for use in molding refractory material and is useful, for example, in molding bricks and other similar products. The apparatus includes a mold table supported by a plurality of vertical columns, the mold table being supported for translational movement on the columns. The apparatus further includes a mold box supported by the mold table, the mold box including at least one vertical mold cavity having opposite open ends. The apparatus also includes a plunger assembly supported below the mold and including at least one plunger having an end received in the mold cavity. A plunger assembly is also supported above the mold and includes at least one plunger receivable in the mold cavity, the plungers of the opposed plunger assemblies being functional to compress refractory material placed in the mold.
