The inner die plate is axially movable relative the outer die ring, between an extended state and a compressed state. A circumferential flexible seal connects the inner die to the outer die ring. During operation, when the inner die moves from the extended state to the compressed state, the seal creates a groove for the formation of a ridge, or crust of pizza dough. The die is more easily manufactured, has a longer useful life, improves the reliability of the machine, and allows for making rising crust pizzas.

    Abstract: A fluid seal including a casing unit and an elastomeric lip body portion. Frustoconical air and oil side surfaces of the lip body meet at an inner diameter portion to form a fluid seal band contacting an associated shaft in use. A continuous, circumferentially extending garter spring is embedded in the seal lip body. An axially inner surface of the lip body is defined in part by plural spaced apart ribs and the remainder is defined by pockets having portions lying closely adjacent the radially and axially innermost portions of the garter spring. In the free state of said seal, the garter spring exerts a radially inwardly directed preload force so as to resist radial expansion of said seal. The spring also resists dimensional shrinkage of the seal band and the remainder of the seal body.

    Abstract: A mold base kit including plural plates having alignment bores for receiving guide dowels for accurately aligning the plates with respect to one another as a mold frame is assembled from the kit. Each guide dowel includes a hollow, cylindrical sleeve sized to fit snugly in the alignment bores of adjacent, abutting plates and also includes an abutment member extending radially outwardly of the guide dowel sleeve intermediate its ends which prevents the guide dowel from moving a substantial distance along an alignment bore. The abutment member may be formed by a circular piece of spring wire which extends through an arc of more than 180.degree. around the outside of the dowel sleeve, and preferably approximately 270.degree. around the sleeve. Because the retainer clip extends less than completely around the sleeve, its ends can readily be spread apart for assembly of the retainer clip onto the sleeve.

    Abstract: A molding machine comprises a mold composed of lower and upper mold sections. A recess is defined in the lower mold section to receive a lead frame or other objects. The lead frame is sandwiched between the upper and lower mold sections. A mold cavity is defined in the lower mold section below the recess so as to receive a thermosetting resin or encapsulant. A gasket groove is defined adjacent to the mold cavity to receive a gasket. The gasket is subject to plastic deformation upon application of force. An oil chamber is communicated with the gasket groove and contains hydraulic oil. The hydraulic oil is pressurized to urge the gasket against the lead frame. As a result, the gasket is so deformed as to closely contact the surface of the lead frame and seal the mold cavity. The hydraulic oil is preferably mixed with thermoplastic resin in powder form.

Oil seals having an improved initial static and dynamic sealing performance is obtained. The second sections (52) achieves a satisfactory pumping action even after a substantial wear has taken place.

The mold has a thermosetting resin squeezed and cured between the mold portions at the edge of the parting line exposed to the mold cavity. The resin fills any gaps between the mold portions resulting from mismatched surfaces. The resin adheres to one mold portion and is readily spaceable from the other. A strip of uncured resin is applied to one of the mold portions, the mold closed at its operating temperature, and the resin allowed to cure to a semi-cured state. The mold is opened and any resin exuding into the mold cavity removed. After the resin has fully cured the mold is ready for use.

According to the invention, the mould cavity is provided with an outwardly projecting part at the ribbon-inlet end of the optodevice, and a seal in the form of a rubber sleeve or a sleeve of some similar material disposed around the ribbon and positioned in the mould cavity so that one end of the sleeve will completely fill the outwardly projecting part and so that the other end of the sleeve extends into the mould cavity. The seal in the moulded optodevice extends out from the optodevice around the ribbon fibre.

    Abstract: A method for forming a composite seal is disclosed. The seal includes a seal ring made from a lubricous fluorocarbon material affixed by a positioning collar to a seal casing having axial and radial flanges. The seal ring also includes at least an outer margin of frustoconical configuration, terminating in an outer edge of a given diameter. The method includes positioning the seal ring and the casing in a multi-element mold, closing the mold and filling the mold cavity thus formed with a fluent, curable elastomer which is permitted to cure into a solid collar positioning the seal ring and affixing it to the casing. Thereafter, portions of the positioning collar are cut away to leave the seal ring secured to the casing by a positioning collar of substantially reduced, thin cross-section.

The sleeve therefore acts as a flow barrier to limit any outward escape of elastomer from the mold cavity during molding. By isolating the clamping and flow limiting outer sleeve from the hydrostatic molding forces, the spring force applied to the outer sleeve may be reduced and the axial height of the mold assembly may also be reduced.

    Abstract: A vacuum bag molding apparatus for a mold having an inner molding surface and a peripheral edge with a vacuum pipe extending around the edge and connected by a series of vacuum ports to the inner molding surface inward of the edge, which includes a continuous channel member of metal or plastic and a spline member of metal or plastic which is receivable with a tight fit in the channel of the channel member to hold a flexible air-impervious sheet between the spline and the channel of the channel member to provide an air-tight vacuum bag which is evacuable through the vacuum ports of the mold to carry out a vacuum bag molding procedure. The sheet of flexible material, channel member, spline member and adhesive to secure the channel member to the edge of the mold may be supplied as a kit.

The molding pressure deforms the second annular seal ring material so that it protrudes into the holes of the flange portion of the annular metal backup ring. This firmly secures and fixes the second annular seal ring between the first seal ring and the annular metal backup ring.

    Abstract: A method of making an oil seal (10) having two separate annular lips (62, 64) formed by splitting a single lip liner blank (12). The lip liner blank is an annular wafer having an annular groove (14) formed on one side (15) of the wafer at the point on the wafer where the wafer is intended to be split into two annular pieces (49, 50). A mold (32) is loaded with the lip liner blank (12), a prep ring of elastomeric material (43) and a seal case (b 44) and then closed thereby clamping the prep ring and wafer between upper and lower dies (40 and 36) of the mold. In the molding step the prep ring and wafer are heated and compressed causing the prep ring to become molten as it flows over the wafer. The molten elastomeric material enters the groove and pressure exerted by the elastomeric material against the groove splits the wafer into two annular pieces (49, 50). A first annular piece (49) is displaced in the mold to the desired location of the excluder lip (64).

The gasket seal (60) may be removed and reinserted in the slider member (80) providing automatic adjustment thereof.

A vacuum is drawn in the mold, and an elastomer is injected to form a body or lip connecting the reinforcement to the disc. The molded ring is removed from the mold and excess lip material and at least the portion of the disc which was clamped are cut off to form the finished seal ring. The low friction material disc can contain PTFE.
