  • Patent number: 4627810
Abstract: An injection mold utilizes a collapsible core portion which includes a core portion and a mold cavity portion. A core base is provided as part of the core portion. A first mold ring is positioned about the core base and longitudinally movable to define a first annular parting line between the core base and first mold ring. The first mold ring carries outer core members and controls their longitudinal positioning along the core base while permitting them to move radially inwardly and outwardly between molding and collapsed positions. A second mold ring is carried on the core and includes stripper ring means, the second mold ring being longitudinally movable to define a second annular parting line with the first mold ring. The second mold ring also forms a third, annular parting line with the mold cavity portion. Means are provided for relatively moving the core base, mold cavity portion, and first and second mold rings in a longitudinal direction relative to each other and the mold cavity portion.

  • Patent number: 4620958
Abstract: In order to mold a plurality of articles (20--20) which are disposed in a line, a molding arrangement in an apparatus (60) includes a plurality of cavities (109--109) which are spaced equidistantly from an infeed sprue (131). A primary network of a distribution system (50) through which an injection molding material is flowed from the infeed sprue to cavity gates (151--151) is disposed substantially along a vertical plane (150). Afterwards the injection molding material which has been flowed from the primary network and along a secondary network into the cavities is solidified. Then the primary network is exposed by causing wedge blocks (79--79) to be disengaged from each other and from an adjacent stationary platen (62) and cavity plate (90) by movement of each block in a direction transverse to the plane.

  • Patent number: 4618121
Abstract: A mold for forming a plastic cap and removing a cap from such a mold. The mold comprises female and male members which, together, form a mold cavity in which the cap is formed. The female member includes an upper assembly and a plurality of cams. The cams have radial protrusions engaging the male member to form annular recesses in the cap. The cap is removed from the mold by moving the upper assembly of the female member axially and the cams thereof radially away from the cap, and then removing the cap itself from the male member of the mold. Preferably the cap is shrunk onto the male member to develop a space between the cap and the female member of the mold prior to moving the female member away from the cap.

  • Patent number: 4588158
Abstract: A single-piece, injection molded rack for holding test tubes or similar articles and a mold for producing the same. In a preferred three-tiered form, the intermediate tier is a lattice defined by the intersection of two superposed sets of parallel bars. These two sets of bars are formed by two pairs of correspondingly channeled slides that cooperatively engage to form a portion of the mold cavity corresponding to the lattice. The channels in each set of slides are aligned with the path of movement of the slides to permit their sliding, uniaxial movement relative to the molded bars. To further enable this sliding movement between mold segments and the molded rack, the connecting supports between the top tier and the intermediate tier are provided on the sides of the rack, while the connecting supports between the intermediate tier and the bottom tier are provided on the front and rear of the rack.

  • Patent number: 4476083
Abstract: The following specification describes a stop boss formed on the handle of a pail by means of a pair of slides located behind a skirt wall of the pail with the handle passing through a slot in the skirt wall, which is closed by a flange wall formed by the slides. The slides are movably carried in guides by a ring member and are received in a recess of another ring member which conventionally forms the annular pail wall. The guides enable the slides to move laterally toward each other in response to downward movement of the carrying ring member, to define the cavities for forming the stop boss and the flange wall closing the skirt wall slot. On completion of the mold cycle and upward movement of the ring member carrying the slides, the guides move the slides laterally apart to release the stop boss and the flange wall. The slides are then moved from between the skirt and pail walls to enable the pail to be released from the mold.

  • Patent number: 4283362
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a self-coiling sheet. The apparatus includes a work station at which a relatively short section of a sheet of flexible material, e.g., crystalline polyethylene terephthalate, is folded upon the remainder of the sheet. The sheet is then advanced onto the carrier plate which, in turn, is mounted for movement toward and away from a gap defined by a pair of superposed pressure-applying rollers. The carrier plate is adapted to deposit the sheet between the rollers such that the folded section of the sheet is located in engagement with one of the rollers and the underlying portion of the sheet is in engagement with the other roller. The rollers are rotated in the same direction so as to drive the folded section of the sheet toward the carrier plate while simultaneously driving the remainder of the sheet in the opposite direction. This action results in the sheet being ejected from the gap of the rollers as a multi-layered generally cylindrical coil having a permanent set.

In order to control both the pivoting and sliding movements of the horizontal cross-member, there is provided a single control means associated with guide means comprising a cam follower member and a groove forming a cam having two end portions which extend vertically and which are one another offset vertically and angularly in relation to axis of support, and an intermediate portion progressively connecting the two end portions of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4084782
Abstract: A tapered mould consisting essentially of a rigid outer frame formed of a set of radially arranged longitudinally extending guide members and a set of axially spaced encircling rings, and a gapped frustoconical tubular casing of resilient sheet material having a set of longitudinal stiffening members arranged thereon for sliding engagement with the respective guide members. The gap in the wall of the tubular casing, extending along a longitudinal line on the periphery of the casing, is opened and closed automatically as the tubular casing inserted in the outer frame is moved axially in opposite directions. Labor - consuming bolt - clamping and releasing operation is completely eliminated and the mould operation can be mechanized with ease, as desired. Packing means interposed between a pair of stiffening members arranged on the opposite sides of the gap further ensures leak - proof gap closing.

  • Patent number: 4043385
Abstract: The specification and drawings disclose an apparatus for permitting molding of components such as turbine blade assemblies and the like without the use of complex multipart molds. The disclosed apparatus comprises first and second mold halves carried by cooperating platens for relative movement toward and away from one another along a path. A connecting assembly is provided for attaching the first mold half to its respective platen in a manner which permits it to have free movement in directions perpendicular to the path and rotary movement about an axis parallel to the path. Additionally, a control assembly is provided to cause the first mold half to undergo predetermined transverse and rotary movement during movement along the path toward and away from the second mold half.

Abstract: Labor-consuming bolting operation as required with conventional forms of the gapped or split type has been ingeniously expelled by the provision of a form structure comprised essentially of a rigid tubular frame, a resilient gapped tubular casing arranged therein as a form in which concrete is to be placed, and camming means arranged on the inside of the rigid frame and on the outside of the resilient casing and cooperable to act upon the resilient tubular casing radially and circumferentially thereof with axial movement of such resilient casing relative to the rigid frame so as to close the gap in the resilient casing while holding the latter in coaxial relation to the rigid frame, any loss of moisture content of concrete during centrifugal forming operation can be effectively prevented by arranging an appropriate packing element on the resilient casing along the gap therein.

  • Patent number: 3947541
Abstract: Method and Apparatus for subjecting material to extreme compression, for instance in the making of artificial diamonds. The material is enclosed within a cluster of anvils. When pressure pads converge to bear upon the clustered anvils so that they slide against each other and the cluster contracts, the material within is compressed. The reaction of each anvil with its pressure pad is directed generally towards the material to be compressed but lies out-of-parallel with the interfaces of sliding movement of that anvil with its neighbours. The pad-anvil reaction can thus be resolved into components urging each anvil into contact with its neighbours, and thus supporting the anvil against fracture due to the high compression it undergoes along the pad-specimen axis.
