    Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a cathode ray tube an electrically conductive coating is provided on an inner surface of the tube. The boundary of said conductive coating in the neck of the tube is sharply defined by wetting the part of the surface of the tube not to be covered with a liquid to remove the conductive material from that part of the surface up to the boundary, and then rinsing the wetted surface to remove any remainder of the conductive material.

The process includes the determination of a circuit pattern wherein a light sensor is used to actuate electronics which in turn controls the flow of the thick film paste for deposition on the substrate inside wall. The substrate is rotated and translated in conjunction with the movement of a light sensor in the x-y plane.

    Abstract: A micro-electronic package which is capable of operating with power densities extending at least to 10 kilowatts per square centimeter comprises a sealed enclosure coupled to an external heat sink and electronic devices and circuitry within the enclosure. Electrical leads extend from the electronic devices and circuitry to the outside of the enclosure to couple the devices and circuitry into a larger electrical function. A dielectric powder is adhered as a complete and conformal coating substantially to all interior surfaces of the enclosure and to all exposed surfaces of the electronic devices and circuitry, and functions as a heat pipe wick. A dielectric working fluid within the enclosure, therefore, can intimately contact all the interior and exposed surfaces to minimize the occurrence of local hot spots on the electronic devices and circuitry and to maximize heat transfer therefrom to the external heat sink.

    Abstract: An amorphous, resistive thin film is deposited on internal surfaces of portions of a cathode ray tube by the pyrolysis of a liquid mixture of colloidal graphite and a heavy metal resinate to produce a film which is a mixture of graphite and the oxide of the metal. The metal resinate is a combination of tin and antimony resinate. The film is deposited on the tube neck in the region of the G3 and G4 electrodes to impede arcing. The amorphous film is also deposited on the tube funnel in the region extending from the snubber contact locations up to the anode voltage terminal. The pyrolysis of the heavy metal resinate and colloidal graphite results in a film having a resistance ranging from 10.sup.3 to 10.sup.8 ohms point to point. The amorphous film which does not require a binder, has good adhesion and scratch resistance characteristics, thereby reducing conductive particle contamination.

    Abstract: This disclosure depicts a novel method for dispensing a cement onto the seal land of a color CRT funnel. In particular, this method is intended for dispensing cement onto a funnel seal land which defines a convex curved plane, at least a curved segment of the seal land lying on a predetermined radius. The method comprises holding the funnel in a neck-down position, providing a substantially stationary cement dispensing nozzle and, in order to dispense cement on at least the segment of the curved seal land, swinging the funnel about the origin of the radius of the seal land segment such that the seal land segment passes under the cement dispensing nozzle at a substantially constant predetermined distance beneath the nozzle and in a substantially horizontal attitude. Apparatus is disclosed for implementing the described method.

    Abstract: A catalytic combustion-type, gas sensing, resistive element and the method of making it by forming an electrical conductor, whose electrical resistance varies with temperature, into a helical coil, coating the coil with a refractory material whose coating matures at a temperature in the range of 1200.degree. C to 1400.degree. C, and heating the coated coil at that temperature range until the coating matures and shrinks into a dense, gas-tight sheath about the helical coil. The coating on the helical coil is integral between adjacent loops and there is a hollow space along the longitudinal axis of the coil. The exterior of the sheath coating may then be further coated with a catalyst, catalytic wash coating, or in some embodiments the hollow space is filled with a porous catalytic material such as platinum and the ends of the hollow space are capped with a porous refractory ceramic material.

    Abstract: A helically fluted deep hole cathode which is fabricated by helically winding at least one thread member around a dielectrically coated cathode tube and then applying a layer of electrical insulation over the tube and thread member so wound and wherein, preferably, the helical flutes commence about the distance of the diameter of the electrode tip from the tip and are selectively formed or machined after forming to have a flute diameter approximately .001 inch to .002 inch smaller than the diameter of the hole to be cut so that the flutes support the electrodes in the deep hole during the cutting operation and provide an egress route for the electrolyte and removed workpiece material to depart the hole area during the hole drilling process.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a luminescent screen of a shadow mask color tube. The phosphor dots on the screen which are separated by a light-absorbing material are smaller than the apertures in the shadow mask. The light-absorbing layer is first provided on the window and the luminescent materials are then provided successively. The inner surface of the window is such that undulations having a spatial frequency from 5 to 50 cm.sup.-.sup.1 or, in other words, wavelengths between 0.2 cm and 0.02 cm, show a depth of less than 1 micron.

    Abstract: A waveguide structure is fabricated by plating a mandrel with a high electrical conductivity metal, such as copper; plasma spray coating the plated mandrel with a selected waveguide body material; forming coupling flanges about the plated mandrel at the ends of the plasma spray formed layer; and removing the mandrel in such a way that the plated metal and plasma spray formed layers remain intact to form a tubular waveguide body with an inner high conductivity liner. The waveguide structure described is a plural cavity bandpass waveguide filter which is fabricated on a mandrel comprising separable sections arranged end to end. Plated iris discs are clamped between the confronting ends of the mandrel sections prior to metal plating plasma spray coating of the mandrel, such that when the mandrel is removed, the iris discs remain intact with and peripherally joined to the filter body liner to define the resonant filter cavities.
