Protective layer forming material uses an acrylic type copolymer material which forms a peelable protective layer when dried. Controller 18 records the training data which trains robots 16a, 16b, 16c to rotate and move so that roller 48 contacts vehicle 14, and vehicle 14 which has finished with painting is introduced; robots 16a, 16b, 16c are made to move according to the training data, protective layer forming material is supplied to roller 48, and protective layer forming material is applied to vehicle 14. To automate the process of applying protective layer forming material, to improve production efficiency, to simplify operations, and to make application quality consistent.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2003Publication date: September 16, 2004Applicant: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Bansei Nagase, Hiromi Okubo, Masahito Terabe

Publication number: 20040180137Abstract: A method of protecting a silica-containing article used in the manufacture of an optical fiber includes the step of applying to the silica-containing article a protective layer that facilitates removal of particulates that deposit on the protective layer and that ablates during or can be removed before subsequent processing of the silica-containing article. An intermediate product used in the manufacture of an optical fiber and protected against break-inducing particulates includes a silica-containing article, and a protective layer that facilitates removal of particulates-that have deposited on the protective layer and that can be ablated during or removed before subsequent processing of the intermediate product.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2004Publication date: September 16, 2004Inventors: Dana C. Patent number: 6787187Abstract: A method of fabricating a micromechanical device. Several of the micromechanical devices are fabricated 20 on a common wafer. After the devices are fabricated, the sacrificial layers are removed 22 leaving open spaces where the sacrificial layers once were. These open spaces allow for movement of the components of the micromechanical device. The devices optionally are passivated 24, which may include the application of a lubricant. After the devices have been passivated, they are tested 26 in wafer form. After testing 26, any surface treatments that are not compatible with the remainder of the processing steps are removed 28. The substrate wafer containing the completed devices receives a conformal overcoat 30. The overcoat layer is thick enough to project the micromechanical structures, but thin and light enough to prevent deforming the underlying micromechanical structures.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2001Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventor: Simon Joshua Jacobs

Patent number: 6783768Abstract: Method of coating a substrate which is a belt, sheet, film, or tape, comprising applying an active coating material to the substrate to form an active coating layer, the active coating material comprising biologically active material. The active coating material is applied electrostatically as a powder and, after the active coating material is applied, the active coating material is fused to form an active film layer. The active coating material is removable from the substrate as a wafer comprising the active film layer.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1999Date of Patent: August 31, 2004Assignee: Phoqus Pharmaceuticals LimitedInventors: Steven R. Patent number: 6773746Abstract: A method of temporarily protecting a surface which includes the steps of applying a continuous coating of a masking material to said surface, which masking material comprises, before drying, an aqueous solution or emulsion consisting essentially of a film-forming, carboxylic acid-containing polymer; coating all or a portion of said surface with a coating compound, said masking material preventing said coating compound from contacting said surface; and, thereafter, removing said masking material from said surface. Preferably said carboxylic acid-containing polymer is an acrylic or methacrylic acid-containing copolymer and is the sole film-forming component of the aqueous solution or emulsion.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2002Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: BAF IndustriesInventor: Otis Franklin Bell

Patent number: 6770321Abstract: A method is provided for making transparent articles utilizing protective layers for optical coatings. An optical coating on a transparent substrate is provided with a temporary layer of carbon as protection during manufacturing against scratches and corrosive environments. When the optical coating and/or substrate are tempered in an atmosphere reactive to carbon, such as air, the layer of carbon is removed as a carbon-containing gas. For an optical coating with a brittle, glassy, outermost layer furthest from the substrate, additional protection is provided by a scratch propagation blocker layer between the outermost layer and the carbon protective layer.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2002Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Assignee: AFG Industries, Inc.Inventors: Kyle W. Patent number: 5053212Abstract: Novel compositions are provided for the production of hydroxyapatite, where a dry mixture is provided which combines a calcium source and an acidic phosphate source, particularly monocalcium phosphate monohydrate or orthophosphoric acid crystals. These two are combined, optionally with other ingredients, with mechanical mixing, resulting in partial reaction or intimate combination to produce a product which requires less water for formation of a desired viscosity, has enhanced mechanical properties and is physilogically acceptable.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1990Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: Norian CorporationInventors: Brent R.
