Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to a method of making a coated article and/or glazing (e.g., for automobile, window, and/or other applications). A colored paint that is not technically a frit is used to form a desired pattern. The paint is screen printed on a substrate. Screen printing parameters are selected, e.g., so that the mesh has a high threads per inch count; the paint is pushed through the screen using hydraulic forces that account for a sheer thinning property of the paint by balancing squeegee speed, squeegee angle relative to the screen, and hardness of the squeegee; and/or relative humidity above and/or near the screen is at least about 80%. Preferably, the paint is substantially fully curable at 400 degrees C. or less. The substrate with the pattern thereon may be heat treated in certain example embodiments and possibly built into an insulated glass unit or other product.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for forming a layered structure comprising a self-assembled material. An initial patterned photoresist layer is treated photochemically, thermally, and/or chemically to form a treated patterned photoresist layer comprising a non-crosslinked treated photoresist. The treated photoresist is insoluble in an organic solvent suitable for casting a material capable of self-assembly. A solution comprising the material capable of self-assembly dissolved in the organic solvent is casted on the treated layer, and the organic solvent is removed. The casted material is allowed to self-assemble with optional heating and/or annealing, thereby forming the layered structure comprising the self-assembled material. Abstract: Methods and systems to control the temperature of a substrate during a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process are provided. A temperature controlled apertured shield can be disposed on the surface of the substrate, surrounding the substrate area that is subjected to the deposition process. The temperature controlled apertured shield can be actively cooled, for example, by a circulated coolant, which can absorb heat from the deposition region and maintaining a desired temperature for the deposited films. In some embodiments, the temperature controlled apertured shield can be used in a high productivity combinatorial (HPC) system, allowing screening of materials and process conditions.

Abstract: A thermal barrier coating method forms a thermal barrier coating by spray coating over the surface of a component where cooling holes are made. The thermal barrier coating is formed by spray coating after masking pins, which do not protrude above the surface of the component, are inserted into the cooling holes or masking pins protruding above the surface of the component are inserted and get shrunk due to heat while spray coating, obtaining the protruding amount equal to or less than the thickness of the thermal barrier coating after shrinkage, which characterizes the method. By way of this method, a thermal barrier coating can be formed all over the surface without clogging the cooling holes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the application of surface coatings to treated aluminum articles utilized on aircraft, and more particularly to a system for masking portions of aluminum aircraft wheel and brake components for application of surface coatings to reduce or prevent wear and/or corrosion to the aluminum article. The system may be utilized for new aluminum aircraft components as well as aircraft components that have been subjected to non-destructive testing. The masking components are constructed and arranged to cooperate with portions of the aluminum component in a sequential manner to allow for application of multiple layers of primer and/or topcoat without removal of prior masking components so that a coated component complies with the manufacturer's written requirements for that component.
