  • Patent number: 8507046
Abstract: A method of creating a fluid layer in the micrometer range includes transferring a fluid between substrates and forming a fluid layer. A surface energy of a first substrate releasing the fluid is higher than a surface energy of a fluid on the first substrate to create a first fluid deposit on the first substrate. A surface energy of a second substrate accepting the fluid is lower than a surface energy of a fluid on the second substrate to create a second fluid deposit on the second substrate that is reduced as compared to the first fluid deposit. A surface energy of a third substrate accepting the fluid is higher than a surface energy of a fluid on the third substrate to create a substantially homogeneous third fluid deposit on the third substrate that forms the fluid layer.

  • Patent number: 8227045
Abstract: A transfer roll rotates to have a coating liquid in a coating liquid tank filled in recesses formed on a roll surface thereof and to have a surplus coating liquid scraped off by a doctor blade, and rotates contacting with a coating roll. Thereby, the coating liquid in the recesses of the transfer roll is transferred to the coating roll. Thereafter, while the transfer roll is moved upward, an arm is rotated counterclockwise whereby the coating roll is separated from the transfer roll. The arm is further rotated whereby the coating roll is moved along an inner surface of a half bearing fixed to a jig and the coating roll applies the coating liquid to the inner surface of the half bearing.

  • Patent number: 7976905
Abstract: The present disclosure provides for a method for transferring fluid. The method provides for the steps of: a) providing a fluid transfer component comprising a first surface, a second surface, a non-random pattern of distinct pores, the pores connecting the first surface and the second surface, the pores being disposed at preselected locations to provide a desired pattern of permeability, b) providing a fluid receiving component comprising a fluid receiving surface, c) motivating a fluid into contact with the first surface and subsequently through the distinct pores to the second surface, d) bringing the second surface and the fluid receiving surface into fluid transfer proximity, e) transferring fluid from the second surface to the fluid receiving surface.

  • Patent number: 7922945
Abstract: Arrangement for manufacturing a web-shaped packaging laminate, comprising an extruder arranged so as to extrude a film of polymer material down into a nip between a cooling roll and a counter-roll, and also means of introducing at least one other layer of the packaging laminate into the said nip for joining the film together with the layer. According to the invention, the arrangement comprises an arrangement for covering the cooling roll with a surface layer of a water-based composition comprising a dry matter content. The invention also relates to the method for manufacturing the web-shaped packaging laminate, in which the composition is transferred as a thin layer to the film of polymer material in the nip, while the film of polymer material is still hot.

  • Patent number: 7595086
Abstract: A method is provided for applying adhesive to the flutes of a corrugated sheet web. An applicator roll is provided with a uniform thin coating of adhesive by a metering rod. Exposed crests of the flutes are brought into contact with a coating of adhesive that has been applied to a surface of an applicator roll in order to provide a uniform bead of adhesive on the flute crests. The flutes are compressed against the applicator roll surface in a forward direction relative to the direction in which the web is moving adjacent the applicator roll surface. In one embodiment, the applicator roll has a surface linear velocity greater than the speed at which the web is traveling.
