Patent number: 4529633Abstract: The invention relates to a thermal camouflage material comprising a supporting layer (4), e.g. a woven material, on which a polyethylene film layer (1), metallized on one side, has been laminated with the aid of fusion adhesive (3). The exposed surface of the plastic film is embossed to make it matte. Polyethylene is highly transparent to infrared radiation and has low emissivity, self radiation. By means of the metal layer (2) there is also obtained radiation insulation so that the outer layer (1) is in a thermal equilibrium which is hardly affected, e.g. by a warm object which is covered with the material, and the outer layer has a low emission ability of about 0.4-0.95, depending on thickness and pigmentation. By applying further patchy layers (5) patchy images will be obtained in image-forming by infrared sensitive instruments in the wavelength ranges 3-5 .mu.m and 8-14 .mu.m. The camouflage material may also include a layer of plastic foam insulating material arranged inwardly of the supporting layer.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1984Date of Patent: July 16, 1985Assignee: Diab-Barracuda ABInventor: Lars G. Patent number: 4518640Abstract: A warp knitted fabric employs a warp knitted pattern as the ground stitches. In this novel fabric there are reinforcing threads of a substantially rigid material. The weft threads may run parallel to each other and are located between the needle loops of stitch rows that follow each other sequentially in the warping direction. Additionally, there are two sets of diagonal threads both of which run alternatively: (a) between two needle loops of neighboring wales and (b) between two needle loops of successive stitch rows. Laid-in warp threads may be provided between needle loops of adjacent wales. There is thus provided a fabric having higher rigidity in all directions.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1984Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Assignee: Karl Mayer Textilmaschinenfabrik GmbHInventor: Christian Wilkens

Patent number: 4514455Abstract: A composite nonwoven fabric, particularly suited for an apparel insulating interliner, comprises a batt of crimped polyester staple fibers and a nonwoven sheet of continuous polyester filaments which are attached to each other by a series of parallel seams having a seam-to-seam spacing in the range of 1.7 to 5 cm. The batt is made of a particular blend of heavy and light staple fibers. The composite fabric has a density of 15 to 24 kg/m.sup.3 and an insulating value of at least 7 CLO/(kg/m.sup.2).Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1984Date of Patent: April 30, 1985Assignee: E. I. Patent number: 4503104Abstract: A circumferentially extending structure 30 for containing particles having an axial component of velocity and a radial component of velocity is disclosed. The structure includes an inner casing 48 and an outer casing 50. The outer casing is formed of a plurality of layers of flexible fabric and includes layers having differing masses per unit length in the fabric. The layers of fabric extend about the inner casing. A means for applying a load to the fabric engages the fabric to place the fabric in tension. One such means is a plurality of bars 80, 82 and turnbuckles 74. In one embodiment, the fabric has a greater mass per unit length in the leading edge region and a greater tension is applied to the leading edge region than other regions of the fabric. A method of forming the structures is disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1983Date of Patent: March 5, 1985Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Homer J. Belanger, Angelo M. Patent number: 4500592Abstract: A tent insulation liner which functions to both retain heat within the tent uring the winter heating season and reduce the external heat load during the summer air conditioning season. The liner is positioned on the interior side of an outer tent shell and is formed by alternating plies of fibrous flame retardant (FR) polyester batting, metallic reflective film and fibrous FR polyester batting and having fiberglass fabric as external cover layers. Optimum insulative properties were found to occur when a three-ply quilting arrangement was employed in which each fiberglass fabric layer was quilted to the adjacent FR batting layer and the two metallic film layers were quilted together with a FR batting layer between.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1984Date of Patent: February 19, 1985Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Calvin K.
