Publication number: 20140345794Abstract: Disclosed herein is a transfer printing technology. A transfer printing substrate includes a plurality of pillar structures and a sacrificial layer applied thereon. In situ alignment of a transfer layer is performed by the pillar structures and a structural confinement by a concave structure formed on a bottom surface of the transfer layer corresponding to the pillar structures, or a chemical bond of the pillar structure and the transfer layer. In the in situ alignment by the structural confinement, the remaining sacrificial layer after being removed may serve as an adhesive component. The transfer process is performed by a separation of the bond by the sacrificial layer, a cutting of the pillar structures in the chemic bonding state of the pillar structures and the transfer layer, or a separation of the bond between the pillar structures and the handling substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2013Publication date: November 27, 2014Applicant: GWANGJU INSTITUTE OF SICENCE AND TECHNOLOGYInventors: Heung Cho KO, Su Ok YUN, Jeong Pil PARK, Suk Ho KIM, Young Kyu HWANG, Yujun HYUN, Hun Soo JANG, Yun Kyung JEONG

Patent number: 8883660Abstract: A three dimensional woven preform, a fiber reinforced composite incorporating the preform, and methods of making thereof are disclosed. The woven preform includes two or more warp steered fabrics. The warp steered fabrics include a darted portion and an un-darted portion. The darted portions of the warp steered fabrics are joined to un-darted portions of one another so as to provide continuous fiber in the circumferential and radial directions of all portions of the preform. An un-darted portion in one steered fabric reinforces a darted portion in the other. The warp steered fabrics can be woven on a loom equipped with a differential take-up mechanism. The warp steered fabrics can be single or multilayer fabrics. The final preform can be a portion of an aircraft window frame.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2010Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Albany Engineered Composites, Inc.Inventor: Jonathan Goering

Publication number: 20140322485Abstract: A fiber preform of ?-shaped section, the preform including a base with a first face and an opposite second face, legs extending from the second face, and a fiber structure woven as a single piece by three-dimensional weaving with a plurality of layers of warp or weft yarns linked interlinked by weft or warp yarns in a plurality of layers of weft or warp yarns. In each plane of the preform, the weft or warp yarns of a first group of weft or warp yarns extend continuously through the base between two opposite edges thereof, and weft or warp yarns of a second group of weft or warp yarns extend continuously from an end of one of the legs to an end of the other leg, passing via the base, with the yarns of the first group and the yarns of the second group presenting two mutual crossings.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2012Publication date: October 30, 2014Applicant: SNECMAInventors: Yann Marchal, Dominique Coupe, Monica Fruscello, Jonathan Goering

Patent number: 8870120Abstract: A composite structure has a first section, a second section, and a curved corner joining the first and second sections. The structure has a stack of fiber-reinforced plies including first and second external plies which run from the first section into the second section on an inside and an outside of the corner, respectively. A discontinuous first internal ply is sandwiched between the first and second external plies so that more of the first internal ply is located within the first section than within the second section. A second internal ply is sandwiched between the first and second external plies. The fibers of the first internal ply run at an angle ? to the fibers of the second internal ply. In some embodiments the angle ? is greater than 3° but less than 20°. In one embodiment the angle ? is between 35° and 42°.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2012Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Airbus Operations LimitedInventors: Timothy J.
