Abstract: Antireflection coating on a substrate which is coated with a low refractive index layer having a specified refractive index which in turn is coated with a high refractive index layer having a higher refractive index than the low refractive index layer, is either characterized in that a roughened surface which scatters and reflects the incident light entered into the low refractive index layer in contact with the substrate is formed at the interface between the low refractive index layer and the substrate, or that a light-diffusing layer which scatters and reflects the incident light entered into the low refractive index layer in contact with the substrate is formed at the interface between the low refractive index layer and the substrate, or that a hard coating layer in contact with the low refractive index layer is formed by dispersing a light-diffusing material in the hard coating layer, which scatters and reflects the incident light entered into the low refractive index layer.

Abstract: A film or tape has one of its major surfaces defined by microstructured features including a plurality of channels defined by spaced apart ridges. The microstructured film is able to acquire liquids and to control the directional transport of such liquids for subsequent removal therefrom. The transport can be passive or active (i.e., caused or enhanced by an applied potential). The inventive microstructured films and tapes have applications in laminate floor assemblies (for spill removal) and industrial articles such as computer keyboards and other devices and assemblies that benefit from fluid removal. The invention also has application in evaporative and condensation applications. In one embodiment, at least one cross-channel is formed on the microstructured surface to join adjacent channels for liquid flow therebetween.

Abstract: Films having a microreplicated topography are prepared from contacting a microembossed pattern to a layer of film. When an adhesion interface is established between the layer of film and a supporting substrate, the topography of the film surface controls the performance of the adhesion interface. Articles having microreplicated film surfaces are also disclosed that have an advantage of providing microchannels for fluid egress for an effective period of time. Multiple microembossed patterns produce microreplicated film surfaces having both microchannels for fluid egress and pegs for improved film properties.
