According to the present invention, the security symbol comprises a layer in the product, one which consists of a synthetic, electrically conductive polymer, the conductivity of which has been changed locally to form an electrically conductive or, alternatively, electrically non-conductive figure. Furthermore, a figure indicating the security symbol has been fitted on the surface of the paper or the cardboard product. A security product according to the present invention can be produced simply by first applying a conductive polymer, for instance in a non-conductive form, onto a paper, after which an acidic figure is printed in such as way that the area below the figure becomes conductive. The figure can be detected and in this way it acts as a guarantee of authenticity for the product.

  • Patent number: 6893789
Abstract: A method for producing printed products, according to which method the surface of a sheet of paper or board is printed by the electrophotography technique or a similar printing method, wherein a dry finely-divided printing ink is transferred onto the printing base by means of an electric field. According to the invention, a paper or board is used the printing surface of which has a pigment-containing coating layer in which at least 20% of the pigment is made up of a hydrous pigment, such as gypsum, or in which at least 20% of the filler is made up of a hydrous filler, such as gypsum. When a gypsum pigment and/or a gypsum filler is used, the quality of the printed image is not sensitive to the control quantities used in the printing press. By means of the invention, a very regular print is indeed obtained, and so the invention is especially well suited for the printing of a sheet of a very matt paper or board.

  • Patent number: 6863940
Abstract: Weatherproof sheets, suitable for conventional printing, writing, photocopying, and laser printing, are prepared by impregnantly coating a cellulosic substrate on at least one side with a durable weatherproofing composition that is water-based. The composition that is used for general-purpose weatherproof sheets comprises a styrenic acrylic copolymer, a wax, a filler for blocking resistance, a filler for tooth, and a pigment. The preparation of all-purpose weatherproof sheets, usable in photocopiers and laser printers, is made possible by substantially omitting calcium carbonate and titanium dioxide from the composition. The weatherproof sheets resist falling apart, remain legible, and can be written upon when wet. They are also non-yellowing, biodegradable and recylclable. Also, disclosed are methods for making the weatherproof sheets, as well as weatherproof sheets made by those methods.
