Abstract: A new class of protective fabrics having good ballistic and fragmentary protection also provide wearable drape, softness, and moisture transport, as well as good UV and abrasion resistance and color acceptance, making them comfortable to wear as garment fabrics. The protective fabrics are constructed from yarns having at least 20% ballistic fibers with greater than 12 gpd tenacity. A combined cover factor of between 55% and 80% avoids added stiffness due to yarn distortion at the crossing points. In embodiments, a long-float weave such as twill or satin with reduced crossing point density improves the hand of the fabric, and in some embodiments provides a different character on each face so that a predominantly staple fabric face is in contact with skin of a user, thereby providing better wearing comfort than a plain weave.

Abstract: Disclosed is a vacuum heat insulating material. Also disclosed is a heat insulating box using the vacuum heat insulating material. The vacuum heat insulating material includes a core member and envelope members having gas-barrier properties and including heat-seal layers. The envelope members are opposed to each other in such a manner that the core member is disposed between the heat-seal layers. The envelope members are entirely heated to a temperature at which the heat-seal layers are melted, and the heat-seal layers are heat sealed to each other by applying uniform pressure to the entire envelope members from outside to inside the envelope members.

Abstract: Provided are oxidized carbon nanotube structures including aggregates, networks, assemblages, rigid porous structures, electrodes, and mats. Oxidized carbon nanotubes may be formed by conducting gas-phase oxidation on carbon nanotubes. Gas-phase oxidation may be conducted by contacting carbon nanotubes with gas-phase oxidizing agents, such as CO2, O2, steam, N2O, NO, NO2, O3, ClO2, and mixtures thereof. Near critical and supercritical water can also be used as oxidizing agents. Oxidized carbon nanotube structures may include a plurality of oxidized carbon nanotubes along with a supported catalyst, which was used to grow carbon nanotubes prior to oxidation. The supported catalyst may be subjected to gas-phase oxidation and may remain with the oxidized carbon nanotubes in oxidized carbon nanotube structures.

Abstract: A seal laminate for closing a mouth of a container is provided. The seal laminate includes a heat seal layer, a structural base support layer and upper and lower dimensional stable layers. The heat seal layer bonds the laminate to a rim surrounding the container's mouth. The structural base support layer may be comprised of a pulp, paper, cardboard, chipboard, paperboard, or cellulose based material having a moisture content of about 3 to about 6 percent and is positioned above the heat seal layer. The upper and lower dimensionally stable layers are disposed above and below the structural base support layer and are sized to balance the vertical forces on the structural base support layer upon exposure to about 60 percent or greater relative humidity. The upper and lower dimensionally stable layers have a water vapor transmission rate of about 1.5 g/100 in2/24 hours or below.
