  • Patent number: 7169458
Abstract: Embossing regularly textured sheets with an appropriate regular, discrete embossing pattern to improve softness can result in a combined texture that creates an interference pattern that camouflages the original texture pattern and the embossing pattern. The resulting pattern is more appealing to the eye and is more random in appearance than the initial textured sheet or the embossing pattern individually. This result is particularly advantageous for paper towels.

Abstract: A flexible carrier for carrying a plurality of beverage containers includes a plurality of container holders, each having a portion with higher energy treatment and a portion with lower energy treatment. The energy treatment is corona or plasma treatment. The portions with higher energy treatment provide better carrier-to-container friction. By varying the level of energy treatment and the relative size of the portions being treated, the amount of overall friction between the flexible carrier and the containers can be controlled.

Abstract: An induction heating coil device includes a workpiece having one or more planar surfaces, and an induction coil having a number of coil turns arranged in inwardly converging shape and arranged to have planes of the coil turns offset from each other for generating high frequency wave. The planes of the coil turns are disposed parallel to the planar surfaces of the workpiece, for allowing the workpiece to be evenly or uniformly heated by the high frequency wave generated by the coil turns of the induction coil. The induction coil may include one or more insulating rings attached onto the coil turns, for preventing the coil turns from being electrically contacted with the planar surface of the workpiece.

Abstract: Solid battery components are provided. A block copolymeric electrolyte is non-crosslinked and non-glassy through the entire range of typical battery service temperatures, that is, through the entire range of at least from about 0° C. to about 70° C. The chains of which the copolymer is made each include at least one ionically-conductive block and at least one second block immiscible with the ionically-conductive block. The chains form an amorphous association and are arranged in an ordered nanostructure including a continuous matrix of amorphous ionically-conductive domains and amorphous second domains that are immiscible with the ionically-conductive domains. A compound is provided that has a formula of LixMyNzO2. M and N are each metal atoms or a main group elements, and x, y and z are each numbers from about 0 to about 1. y and z are chosen such that a formal charge on the MyNz portion of the compound is (4-x). In certain embodiments, these compounds are used in the cathodes of rechargeable batteries.

  • Patent number: 7018712
Abstract: Volatile organic compound or other materials are produced in the thermoplastic manufacture of thermoplastic polyester beverage containers. Such materials can be eluted into beverages such as carbonated beverages, sparkling or still water from the polyester. Such thermoplastic polyester resins can be manufactured with a material that can prevent the formation of, or react with, and absorb volatile by-products during the formation of thermoplastic preforms or containers from the thermoplastic pellet or chip. Further, as the preform is blown into a polyester container, the active materials of the invention prevent the generation of additional undesirable volatile materials. Lastly, the scavenger material can act as a barrier that prevents transport of materials from the exterior of the container into the container contents.

  • Patent number: 6984436
Abstract: In homogeneous materials, etching characteristics depend on properties inherent in these materials regardless of whether they are isotropic or anisotropic, and there have been limitations in realizing various desired shapes. A subject for the invention is to provide a gradient material which eliminates these limitations. A gradient material is provided in which the rate of etching with a specific chemical substance changes continuously or by steps from the outermost surface to an inner part thereof. This gradient material is made of a main material which contains an additive capable of changing the etching rate of the main material so that the concentration of the additive changes continuously or by steps. Especially when a glass material containing SiO2 as the main component is used as the main material and fluorine is used as the additive, then a gradient material in which the rate of etching with an aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid changes in the depth direction can be obtained.
