    Abstract: A method for decorating a substrate using a kit that includes a laminate comprising a cover sheet having a layer of adhesive on one surface, a predetermined printed design, and pieces of optical film that have peripheral shapes corresponding to parts of the printed design, each of which pieces has a layer of adhesive along one surface and grooves or other structure along an opposite surface so that the pieces visually simulate decorative structures. The pieces of optical film are placed over portions of the design corresponding to their shapes, the structured surfaces of the pieces of film are adhered to the adhesive on the laminate, and the pieces of optical film adhered to the layer of adhesive on the laminate are positioned at a desired location on the substrate. Air is pressed out from between the pieces of optical film and the substrate, after which the laminate is removed to leave the pieces of optical film adhered to the substrate in the predetermined design.

    Abstract: A roof membrane and a roof system employing a EPDM membrance which is compatible with a bituminous adhesive. The membrance includes an outer layer of polymeric layer such as EPDM bonded to a polyester protective layer which is in turn bonded to a fleecy material. This can be adhered to a roof deck surface using hot asphalt or bitumen which bonds the fleecy material to the roof deck in turn holding the EPDM in place. The polyester layer prevents the asphaltic material from attacking and dissolving the EPDM with the fleecy material providing good adhesion between the polyester and the EPDM.

A dry paint transfer film is first laminated to a relatively thin semi-rigid thermoformable resinous backing sheet. The backing sheet side of the resulting laminate is then laminated to a relatively thick thermoformable substrate sheet comprising the same or a compatible polymeric material. The two sheets are joined by extruding the thick substrate sheet and using the heat of extrusion to then laminate the thin backing sheet to the thicker extruded substrate sheet. The resulting thick sheet laminate is then thermoformed, preferably by first heating the laminate to a forming temperature, followed by vacuum forming the laminate to a three-dimensional shape of the finished automotive part, such as a facia, ready to put on a vehicle.

A transparent clear coat is calendared to the color pigmented layer to form a composite or laminate. The laminate is subsequently vacuum-formed into a three dimensional shape approximating the desired shape of a final trim product. The vacuum-formed laminate is then inserted into an injection molding device, and semi-molten resin injected into the mold cavity behind the laminate. The resin fuses with the vacuum-formed laminate with the result being the final automotive trim product. Thus, no spray painting or spraying of solvents is required, and burdensome dry paint transfer techniques may be avoided.

The overpressure from an explosive blast causes the frame (12) to be displaced primarily laterally from the receiving pan (16) thereby releasing the blast overpressure (20) to the edges of the displaced frame (12) and reducing the risk of release of shrapnel from said sheet of generally light transmissive material (14).

    Abstract: Defects of printed patterns occurring during screen printing are repaired with high efficiency by employing a defect repair sheet in which a material layer for repair is formed on a transparent sheet and an adhesive layer is formed on the transparent sheet in order to cover the material layer for repair. The defect repair sheet is pressed on a defective portion of a predetermined pattern formed on a base by printing, thereby transferring the material layer for repair to the defective portion. The transferred portion is then subjected to, for example, a laser irradiation, so that the adhesive layer transferred together with the material layer for repair is vaporized and the material layer for repair is fired or heated and hence evaporated.

The device can be flat, and when combined with adhesive forms a tape, that may include a backing member, inert to the adhesive, for storage. Tubular devices are also permissible.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus which enable the lateral displacement of windows and window elements in reaction to overpressure forces resulting from an explosion are disclosed. According to the present invention, these forces are released to the edges of the displaced window and window elements, and the window itself remains intact or does not release life-threatening or injurious projectiles. One embodiment of the invention (10) comprises a window frame (12) which holds a pane of glass or synthetic material such as acrylic or polycarbonate (14), the frame (12) being coupled to a window receiving pan or receptor (16) by a plurality of retainers (18). The overpressure from an explosive blast causes the frame (12) to be displaced primarily laterally from the receiving pan (16) thereby releasing the blast overpressure (20) to the edges of the displaced frame (12) and reducing the risk of release of shrapnel from said sheet of generally light transmissive material (14).
