    Abstract: A battery loading mechanism requires that a battery is inserted with a positive electrode terminal inserted first into a battery chamber. The battery chamber is formed with a space into which the battery is inserted from an insertion port opened outside. A positive-side electrical contact is provided in an inner part, opposite to the insertion port, of the battery chamber, and a negative-side electrical contact is provided on a side of the insertion port of the battery chamber. The positive-side electrode has a contact point contacting the positive electrode terminal of the battery and a preventive portion contacting the non-conductor portion when the battery is inserted with the negative electrode terminal first. The contact point does not contact the negative electrode terminal when the preventive portion contacts the non-conductor portion to reduce accidental discharge of the battery.

On recharge, this circuitry is overridden to allow charging of the entire battery. A heat sensor may be used to stop this override during charging if an internal short develops during charging. More particularly, a multi-cell secondary battery includes multiple secondary battery cells connected in parallel and a unidirectional current valve connected in series with at least one of the secondary battery cells. The unidirectional current valve may be a diode, for example. Switching circuitry is connected in parallel with the unidirectional current valve to allow for recharging by bypassing the unidirectional current valve.

    Abstract: A receiver for a laser transmitter for use in surveying, comprising a housing and a sensor module pivotably mounted on the housing so that, by pivoting the sensor module relative to the housing, the device can detect a laser signal coming from sources at various angles to the housing. Also, a battery receptacle comprising a housing which defines a cavity and an opening at one end of the cavity for receiving a battery. First and second recesses are formed at the other end of said cavity and are shaped to receive terminals on a battery which is inserted in the cavity. First and second electrically conductive springs are mounted in the first and second slots, respectively. A door is mounted on the housing to close the opening and to retain a battery in the cavity.

    Abstract: A dry cell accommodating device includes a dry cell chamber, a cover and a dry cell holder. When a plurality of larger dry cells, for instance, size "AA" dry cells are accommodated, they are fitted into the interior of the dry cell chamber without any necessity for the dry cell holder. When a plurality of smaller dry cells, for instance, size "AAA" dry cells are accommodated, they are first held by means of the dry cell holder and the latter is then fitted into the dry cell chamber together with the dry cells. The device is provided with a mechanism for inhibiting an occurrence of incorrect fitting of the dry cell holder. The mechanism comprises a plurality of projections on the bottom of the dry cell chamber and a plurality of recesses formed at the lower part of the dry cell holder to be fitted over the projections when the dry cell holder is oriented in the correct direction. Further, the device is provided with another mechanism for inhibiting incorrect fitting of smaller dry cells.

    Abstract: A system for facilitating the installation of a storage battery of the general lead acid type in a vehicle and its removal therefrom is disclosed. In one embodiment designed to accommodate side-mounted battery terminals, a rigid case mounted to the vehicle includes a pair of adjustable connectors secured to an upper portion of a lateral wall thereof. Each connector is coupled to a respective positive or negative lead of the vehicle and is adapted to securely engage a cylindrical post threadably engaged in each of the side-mounted battery terminals. The battery may be lowered into or removed from the case by means of a conventional strap positioned thereon with a tight-fitting relationship established between the case and the battery so as to insure a stable battery installation. The connectors may be manually adjusted to securely engage a respective post or to permit the easy removal of the battery from the case.
