Patent number: 9279636Abstract: A projectile launcher includes a barrel mount, a tubular barrel, and a biasing member disposed in the barrel. The barrel mount can assume a barrel-securing configuration and a barrel-releasing configuration in which the barrel is longitudinally movable relative to the barrel mount from a forward position to a rearward position. The biasing member is compressible from an initial relaxed position to a first compressed position with the barrel in the rearward position, and to a second (further) compressed position the barrel in the forward position. The projectile can thus be launched at different speeds according to the barrel position. The launcher may also include a trigger release, a handgrip, and indicia markings on the barrel to denote approximate launch distance or other information. Optionally, the projectile is attached to a lead line that loops over a tree branch upon launching, such as for suspending a food container at a campsite.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2014Date of Patent: March 8, 2016Inventors: Peter B. Publication number: 20140245657Abstract: An insect killing device including rigid outer and inner tubes assembled to be slidably and telescopically engaged, and having a pliant, limber elastic cord extended therethrough. The cord is interconnected at its respective proximal and distal ends only to a gripping pull knob and substantially flat insect-impact element. The pull knob is connected to the inner tube proximal end and is larger than the outer tube's inner diameter to prevent accidental disassembly thereof. Sighting an insect on a surface, user grasps the outer tube by one hand, and with the other hand retracts the knob along with the inner tube and cord, drawing the impact element toward the inner tube distal end. On release the stretched cord and inner tube drive the impact element against the insect. The pliant nature of the cord affords an unrestricted twisting motion of the impact element so as to align with an impact surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2013Publication date: September 4, 2014Inventor: Phillip Graham Kirschbaum

Publication number: 20120266523Abstract: A fly killing device with a flat disk shaped member, an outer rigid tube, an inner rigid tube, an elastic cord and a pull knob. The inner rigid tube is slidably and telecopically engaged within the outer rigid tube. The elastic cord is slidably and telescopicically engaged within the rigid inner tube member. The elastic cord is attached at one end to the flat disk shaped member and at the opposite end to the pull knob. When a user pulls back on the pull knob, the elastic cord is stretched and, when the pull knob is released by the user, the elastic cord retracts rapidly causing the inner rigid tube and the disk member to shoot forward rapidly for the purpose of killing a small insect such as a fly or mosquito.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2011Publication date: October 25, 2012Inventor: Phillip Graham Kirschbaum

Patent number: 6851218Abstract: An insect swatter includes an elongate rod with an elastic lash fixedly joined to a distal end thereof. The lash is sized for being stretched from the rod distal end to adjacent a proximal end of the rod so that release of the lash results in spontaneous contraction thereof for swatting the insect. In an exemplary embodiment, the swatter is in the form of a pistol, with the lash extending from the distal end of the rod to a latch operated by a trigger. Aiming the rod toward the insect and pulling the trigger releases the lash for swatting the insect.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1994Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Inventor: Francis Luca Conte

Patent number: 6067746Abstract: An adhesive insect trapping device having an elongated handle being fixedly attached to a flat plate member whereon a sheet of adhesive material is attached is disclosed. The plate member includes a foldable cover member being hingeably attached thereto so as to be secured in coplanar relation in an open position of the device. In the open position a sheet of adhesive material is arranged thereon to allow an insect to be adhesively captured on the device. The plate and cover members are foldable to a closed position wherein the adhesive sheet is folded 180.degree. onto itself thereby entrapping the insect in an envelope formed from the adhesive sheet material for disposal. In one embodiment the insect trapping device is manually folded to contain the captured insect. Patent number: 4974360Abstract: Spring-powered device for swatting flies and other insects has a swatting element pivotably connected to an elongated handle through two axially-aligned helical springs interposing the swatting element and handle. The springs, provided with protruding ends for connection purposes, perform the triple function of connecting the handle to the swatting element, powering the swat, and providing a pivot or hinge on which the swatting element pivots. The springs are oppositely-wound, one on a left-hand and one on a right-hand helix, thereby providing lateral balance to the swat. A sliding rod affixed to the handle performs the functions of restraining the swatting element against the action of the springs prior to the swat and of subsequently releasing it into its swatting arc under spring power.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1989Date of Patent: December 4, 1990Inventor: Richard L.
