  • Patent number: 8272158
Abstract: A device that assists in the holding and releasing of a cast net when thrown for fishing is herein disclosed. The device replaces the traditional practice of holding the edge of a casting net in a fisherman's mouth while throwing. The device is made of a section of synthetic cord wherein each end of the cord is attached to the outward leg of a clip mechanism, thus forming a loop configuration. The loop is then placed around the fisherman's neck with the clip mechanism hanging in a downward configuration. The cast net is then prepared to throw but instead of placing the edge of the net in the mouth, it is secured within the jaws of the clip. The net is then cast and as the net travels away from the fisherman, it pulls away from the clip resulting in a perfect cast.

  • Patent number: 7975424
Abstract: One embodiment of a castable fish catching net device operable by one person for capturing aquatic animals from any body of water without the need for the operator to enter the water. Includes a purse type seine supported by a generally triangular frame which is heavier than the surrounding water thus providing a sinking force. A handle is attached to the apex of the triangular frame extending in towards the center of the frame. A casting and retrieval cord is attachable to the most center end of the handle. Buoyant means is provided to orient the fish catching net device in a substantially vertical attitude relative to the surface of the body of water as it descends into the water. The purse shaped net has membranes that generate a buoyant-force as the fish catching net device is dragged through the water thus providing the operator with the ability to control the depth of deployment by varying the speed of forward travel through the water.

The drop net assembly includes an upper float ring, a lower weight ring, and a net formed in a generally tubular configuration. The upper end of the net is attached to the float ring and the lower end of the net is attached to the weight ring. The drop net assembly has several torque lines that extend from locations on the float ring on the outside of the net to locations on the weight ring that are initially angularly offset at least one hundred eighty degrees relative to their points of attachment to the float ring. The torque lines are shorter than the vertical length that the net would assume in a stretched condition with the float ring buoyed upon the surface of a body of sea water and with the weight ring suspended therebeneath and held only by the structure of the net. As gravity pulls the weight ring downwardly from the float ring in the water, tension is exerted on the torque lines.

  • Patent number: 5979100
Abstract: An improvement in cast nets includes a first ring to which a throw rope is releasably attached and a second ring that is interconnected to the first ring by a housing that allows the rings to swivel independently with respect to one another. The second ring is releasably attached to a semicircular handle that is attached to an apertured flat disc. Each brail has an uppermost end that extends through an aperture in the disc and which is knotted so that it cannot fall back through the aperture. An annular ring is releasably attached to the flat disc and overlies the knots to prevent axial travel of the brails. The rotational connection between the rings facilitates throwing the net, and the connection of the top end of the brails to the apertured disc inhibits tangling of the brails with one another and facilitates replacement of broken brails.

Abstract: An outrigger device is provided for automatically controlling outriggers on a fishing boat. The device comprises three strut members connected to a side surface on a fishing boat at given points. Two of the strut members will be of variable length, while the third strut member is of a fixed length. The first variable strut member serves as a base for the main outrigger pole. The second variable strut member and the fixed strut member serve as supporting and controlling struts for the outrigger pole. Variable strut members will be varied, either independently or together, to change the position of the outrigger device to correspond to several different situations.

Abstract: An apparatus for harvesting floating brine shrimp colonies from open water is disclosed. The apparatus includes a boat fitted with a driven roller arrangement adapted to engage and retrieve a floating boom positioned to enclose the subject shrimp colony. A conveyor belt fitted with a plurality of net-fitted frames is also mounted on the boat and is positioned to receive and filter the shrimp from the water as the roller arrangement tightens the boom enclosure about the shrimp colony and thereby directs that colony into proximity of the conveyor and its net-fitted frames.

  • Patent number: 4995187
Abstract: A fishing vessel device having open faced pulleys attached to a pivotal plate member of a traveling assembly. The traveling assembly is winched along a slide rail attached perpendicular to a pivotal cross tee support. Another open faced pulley is attached to the cross tee support such that this pulley is in a coplanar relationship with the traveling pulleys. The cross tee support is pivotally attached to a stanchion and the stanchion is mounted adjacent to the vessel gunnel. The buoy attached end of a crab pot hauling line is retained in a fork shaped device such that when the line is also trained about the open faced pulleys a crab pot can be recovered from the water and suspended within the work area of the vessel. Rotation of the pivotal plate member will result in dumping the hauling line from the traveling pulleys. Rotation of the cross tee support will result in the lowering of the overall height of the fishing vessel.

  • Patent number: 4736541
Abstract: A trolley assembly for use upon a line which is anchored in the water for retrieving a fishing net. The trolley assembly includes a weighted body member having a pair of trolley arms extending therefrom. The trolley arms are disposed at an angle to one another and are integrally associated with the body member to define a generally V-shaped assembly. The body member includes a loop disposed on a line bisecting the angle between the trolley arms for affixing a net securing line opposite the trolley arms. The trolley assembly also includes a pair of trolley wheels adapted to ride on the anchored line. One of the trolley wheels is mounted for wheel-rolling movement on each of the trolley arms. The trolley wheels are disposed in spaced relation to the body member. With these features of construction, one end of the fishing net can be secured to the trolley assembly with the net securing line and the other end of the fishing net can be controlled by a fishing line secured thereto.
