Patent number: 10314684Abstract: The described invention provides several aspects designed to help mechanically break up a clot inside vessels and/or remove a clot via aspiration simultaneously. According to some embodiments, the devices are adapted to irrigate a blood vessel during thrombectomy; to macerate an obstruction during thrombectomy, to block blood flow in a blood vessel during aspiration of a thrombus; or to capture and remove distal emboli. With the described invention, when used to ameliorate arterial clots, irrigation and aspiration are performed simultaneously in conjunction with a balloon or occlusive catheter to reverse flow of the vessel. With the described invention, when used to ameliorate venous clots and most arterio-venous dialysis grafts, a filter-tipped aspirator is used downstream from the clot to capture and remove dislocated emboli.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2017Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Inventor: Daniel Ezra Walzman

Patent number: 8191305Abstract: A netting arrangement for use in trawling is described. The arrangement includes a grid portion 120 which is desirably collapsible and is formed from a plurality of loops. Each of the loops are provided with four sides, two sides having a substantially rigid nature and being separated from one another by flexible interconnectors. A netting and ramp arrangement is also described wherein the ramp assists in the selective expulsion of juvenile and small fish from the net.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2007Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Inventors: Danny Gallagher, Donald John MacLean, Anthony Breslin, Kevin Hayden

Patent number: 7685762Abstract: A device for reducing the catch of unwanted species of organisms in fishing trawls which allows the retention of shrimp and the escape of fish from the trawl. The device features a longer, smaller diameter cylinder nested within a shorter, larger diameter cylinder in such a way as to create a continuous escape opening around the entire circumference of the net. The trawl bag is attached to the downstream end of the outer cylinder and the trawl body is attached to the upstream end of the inner cylinder. Flow blocking plates, set at an approximate 45° angle ahead of the escape opening, create an area of reduced water flow in and around the escape opening. Fish naturally move into the slower water flow and into the escape opening. Fish then move out of the trawl. Shrimp, being weaker in their swimming abilities are unable to move into the slower water areas and are therefore carried into the trawl bag and are captured.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2007Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Inventor: Glenn Ray Parsons

Patent number: 6357162Abstract: A device (10) having a cylinder housing (12) with a bore (12a) receives a piston sleeve (14) in which a tapered bore is formed in radially movable sections extending from the piston head. A rope gripping split sleeve (16) having a tapered outer circumference and formed of separable sections which are radially movable but maintained in axial alignment is received in the tapered bore of the piston sleeve. A rope is placed in the split sleeve which is inserted in the piston sleeve and in turn in the housing bore. A valve (18) disposed in the head (14a) of the piston sleeve allows piston movement inwardly but resists outward movement of the piston, allowing a metering fluid flow providing a timed release of the rope dependent on the force level applied. In a second embodiment device (100) includes a piston rod (122) attached to the piston sleeve which extends through a guide plug (116) into a compression chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1999Date of Patent: March 19, 2002Inventor: Frank A. Patent number: 6343433Abstract: The apparatus for separating target and non-target species harvested from a waterbody includes a catch boat towable behind a trawler for towing concomitantly with a trawl net towed behind the trawler. An elongate intake conduit having first and second ends extends between the catch boat and the rearmost, that is, downstream end of the trawl net. The first end of the intake conduit is mountable to, so as to be in fluid communication with, an aperture in the trawl net, when the trawl net is submerged in the waterbody. The second end of the intake conduit is opposite the first end of the intake conduit and is mounted to the catch boat in fluid communication with a first fluid reservoir in the catch boat. Fluid containing harvest species and by-catch is urged along the intake conduit from the first end to the second end of the intake conduit so as to discharge fluid from the second end of the intake conduit into the first fluid reservoir. Fluid and by-catch are discharged from the catch boat.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2000Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Inventor: Lee Granberg
