  • Patent number: 7235210
Abstract: There is provided a novel construction of a metal melting furnace that can preheat and melt the entire material more efficiently and that can facilitate operations for removing oxides deposited on the surface around the melting burner and the inside thereof and thus reduce the time for cleaning the inside of the furnace. The metal melting furnace 10 includes a melting chamber 20 that has a material charging port 21 and a flue 22 at the top and a hearth section 25 along which melted material flows down to a molten material holding section 60 at the bottom, wherein a combustion chamber 30 equipped with a melting burner 35 is formed below the hearth section 25, a heating plate 40 comprised of a heat-resistant plate having high heat conductivity is disposed in the hearth section 25 above the combustion chamber 30, and an exhaust gas outflow passage 50 from the combustion chamber 30 is formed in a side wall of the melting chamber 20.

  • Patent number: 6841210
Abstract: Disclosed is a multilayer structured quartz glass crucible, for pulling up silicon single crystal, whose structure has at least three layers comprising: a translucent outer layer made of naturally occurring quartz glass and having a large number of pores, a translucent intermediate layer, made of synthetic quartz glass and having a large number of pores, and a transparent inner layer substantially free from pores and made of a synthetic quartz glass. Thermal convection within the silicon melt is suppressed by use of the quartz glass crucible, thereby preventing oscillation on the surface of the silicon melt. A method for producing the quartz glas crucible is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5599182
Abstract: A heated crucible apparatus allows the adjustment of a thermal profile within a combustion chamber surrounding the crucible by introducing a sub-stoichiometric or a super-stoichiometric mixture of fuel and oxidant into the combustion chamber and varying the oxidant flow for sub-stoichiometric or fuel flow for super-stoichiometric downstream of the initial combustion to control the release of heat in defined areas within the combustion chamber. The adjustable thermal control system allows for an even thermal energy release or varying thermal energy release over the length of the crucible. The apparatus a crucible having an inlet and and outlet surrounded by the combustion chamber which chamber includes an oxidant and fuel supply at the primary injection point followed by secondary injection of the remaining oxidant supply for sub-stoichiometric (or fuel supply for super-stoichiometric) at specific intervals to achieve the desired thermal profile and heating of the crucible.

  • Patent number: 4944674
Abstract: An apparatus such as a crucible furnace for heating a vessel such as a crucible comprises an enclosure surrounding the vessel so that a flow path exists between the enclosure and the vessel which has an outer surface forming the inner boundary of the flow path. The flow path extends all around the vessel. First and second gas fired burners open into the flow path to discharge their hot combustion product gases into the path. Associated with each burner is a respective heat regenerator. When the first burner is in firing mode its emitted hot combustion product gases circulate around the flow path and leave through the second burner, which is in flueing mode, and heat the associated regenerator. Then when the second burner is in firing mode that heated regenerator heats the combustion air used by the second burner.

  • Patent number: 4455016
Abstract: A melting furnace includes a crucible surrounded by a wall to form an annular heating chamber. A burner provides a long combustion flame which circulates through the annular chamber to heat the exterior of the crucible. The combustion flame and hot gases in this chamber are exhausted through a stack having a first exhaust port at the top of the stack and a second exhaust port on the side of the stack. A duct, connected to the stack at the second port, provides a path for ducting the combustion flame and gases into the mouth of the crucible to melt a charge therein. The first exhaust port is selectively opened and closed, as by a damper, to alternatively direct the combustion flame and gases either (a) through the first port to the atmosphere, or (b) through the second port, into the duct, and into the mouth of the crucible. When the first port is open, noxious fumes from the crucible are advantageously drawn through the duct and into the exhaust stack.

  • Patent number: 4403955
Abstract: A segmented cup-shaped receptacle is provided for completely supporting a melt containing softened crucible, the receptacle having plurality of similar elevational segments. The elevational segments are normally adjoining to provide complete support for the crucible, but are separable to relieve thermal stresses in the crucible and receptacle during cooling to reduce breakage, the crucible and receptacle having different coefficients of expansion. The elevational segments have inwardly formed lower portions adapted to bias the elevational segments inwardly to adjoining positions by gravity for support of sides of the crucible. The receptacle further comprises a central annular base segment adjoining the lower ends of the elevational segments for supporting a central portion of the melt containing crucible.
