    Abstract: A portable dental delivery system is provided which is composed of a plurality of individual module sections. The portable delivery system provides all basic tools and accessories which are necessary for a dentist to perform all types of dental work which may be required by patients. The dental delivery system includes a quiet running, pressurized clean air supply system for operating the various tools and accessories utilized by the dentist. A hermetically enclosed refrigeration compressor unit is modified to provide an adequate supply of pressurized air in an extremely quiet manner. The temperature of the compressor unit is maintained at a safe level by an oil cooling system. A pump draws oil from the base of the compressor unit, passes it through a radiator which is additionally cooled by an axial fan. The oil is returned to the compressor unit at the top of the housing at a location which will cause the oil to impinge directly upon the cylinder head of the compressor.

In this handpiece, the coolant passageway is formed helically around the axis of the yoke from one end to the other end of the yoke. The sectional area of the yoke in any given longitudinal sectional position along the axis of the yoke is rendered approximately equal to prevent a reduction in motor torque and also enlargement of the handpiece in diameter.

During this pressurization of the maintenance medium, the movable components of the handpiece are placeable into movement through the motion drive of the housing in such a manner, whereby engaging means of the motion drive which are accessible through the outlet opening of the housing can be brought into engagement with cooperating engaging means of the movable components of the handpiece which are accessible through the inlet opening.

    Abstract: A dental appliance has an elongated hollow tube within the interior of which is mounted for rotation an elongated drive shaft. One end of the tube is coupled to a handle as is the drive shaft which is driven from the handle in rotation. A head joined to the other end of the tube defines an interior cavity within which a hub is mounted for rotation about an axis disposed at an angle with respect to the drive shaft. Motion is translated from the drive shaft to the hub. An opening in the head enables the hub to be accessed through the opening. Included in the hub is a barrel section for securing a variety of dental attachments thereto. A seal is created between the opening from the cavity and the hub in order to prevent fluid flow therethrough. Lubricant is introduced within the tube and the drive shaft actuates an augar or the equivalent for propelling the lubricant into the motion translator.

    Abstract: A miniature motor for driving a hand-held instrument such as a dental handpiece, the motor having at one end a connecting member for supplying coolant to a motor coolant line and motive energy to the motor, and at the other end a coupling member to which a hand-held instrument can be releasably connected. An intermediate coolant line in the coupling member serves to transfer coolant from the motor coolant line to a coolant supply line in the instrument which directs the coolant to a working implement at one end of the instrument. The coolant line in the motor comprises a tubular member which is removably mounted in the motor and has a releasable connection at its inlet end to a coolant supply connector in the connecting member, and a releasable connection at its outlet end to the intermediate coolant line in the coupling member. At least one of these releasable connections is provided in a closure member which is removable in order to render the tubular member accessible for servicing.
