  • Patent number: 5213501
Abstract: A mechanically retained fixed partial denture is a three part device which is assembled to form the pontic. The three parts to interlock in a non-displaceable manner as follows: 1) a buccal element engages the buccal surfaces of the abutment teeth 2) a lingual element engages the lingual surfaces of the abutment teeth; 3) part of the buccal element is within the body of the lingual element; 4) and an incisal attachment element then connects the buccal and lingual elements. The incisal attachment element comprises an elongated member which, upon assembly, extends through a linear aperture located within the body of both the buccal element and the lingual element both simultaneously and continuously, to form an interlocking system resulting in one functional unit made up of the three elements. The advantages of this mechanical retention are 1) conservation of tooth structure; 2) efficiency due to time savings; 3) low expense; and 4) no complications of tooth preparation.

  • Patent number: 5092772
Abstract: A dental proosthetic construction is releasably attached at opposite ends to abutment teeth (T). At least at one end, the attachment is by means of a connector comprising a pin (4) and socket (6). The socket has an opening (10) onto the space between the abutment tooth and the prosthesis, the opening continuing over a side of the socket extending longitudinally of the pin. The pin can thus be engaged in the socket by a relative movement transverse to the pin. The pin and socket are then retained in engagement by a releasable latching arrangement (14). The engagement of the pin and socket permits relative translational movement in a direction that varies the spacing between the abutment tooth and the prosthesis but prevents translational movement in other directions. The engagement also permits relative angular movement between the pin and socket about axes transverse to the direction of the relative translational movement but prevents other angular movements.

In accordance with the invention, a conical pin is mounted on the crown base of a capped tooth. A slotted conical bushing is mounted on a dental prosthesis which bushing is received in a telescopic manner on the pin. The pin and the bushing are so disposed that they are positioned vertically between the capped tooth of the remainder of the natural teeth and the adjacent tooth of the dental prosthesis. The bushing is provided with a spring element which yieldingly engages into recesses of the pin when the bushing and the pin are in total engagement with each other, thus retaining the dental prosthesis in its end position. By a corresponding force application, the yielding snap connection can be easily released, so as to remove the dental prosthesis.

  • Patent number: RE32972
Abstract: A base structure for a dental prosthesis comprises first and second anchor elements which are permanently securable to the teeth on opposite sides of a space or gap in the tooth structure of a patient and a base element which is securable to the anchor elements in the gap but which comprises slidably interfitted first and second base element portions so that it is expendable to fit the width of the gap. The method of securing and forming a dental prosthesis in the gap with the base structure comprises the steps of securing the anchor elements on the teeth on opposite sides of the gap, assembling the base element with the anchor elements in the gap, securing the first and second base element portions together, forming an outer shell on the base element and securing the base element with the outer shell thereon to the anchor elements.
