Abstract: Systems and methods described herein utilize a distributed server network to allow for the real-time distribution of copies of a data stream uploaded from a computing device. The uploaded data stream corresponds to an environment surrounding a user (exam taker) of the computing device during execution of a testing routine for an examination. Providing copies of the data stream in real-time allows proctors as well as other test assessment authorities to ‘peek in’ on the exam taker's environment surrounding the exam. As a result, the environment surrounding the exam taker can be monitored in real-time to determine whether any visual or audio activity in the environment constitutes activity not in accordance with the exam protocol. Following an affirmative determination that the exam taker violated an exam taking protocol, the proctor or other test assessment authority can then make a final or early decision regarding disciplinary action.

Abstract: A method and apparatus wherein a plurality of functions are implemented on a multimedia presentation device. A user can access several of the functions by depressing a single button. A particular function is specified by the duration of the button depression. For example, the user may depress button number (#) 3 of a remote control device. A brief depression (e.g., less than 1 second), results in the remote control interpreting this click as a digit for selecting a channel, and the system will tune to channel #3. A longer depression (e.g., between 1 and 2 seconds), results in the system recalling previously programmed selection #3. Likewise, other functions are implemented by depression the button for various durations.

  • Patent number: 9412281
Abstract: A method/system for learning system self-optimization is disclosed. The learning system can include a plurality of learning objects that are connected to each other by a plurality of learning vectors. The learning vectors can identify a prerequisite relationship between the connected learning objects and include data indicating a likelihood of success of a student in traversing the learning vector and/or an expected speed for traversing the learning vector. Data generated from a student's traversal of one of the learning vectors can be used to strengthen or weaken the traversed learning vector based on the student experience.

  • Patent number: 9390195
Abstract: A method of matching a first entity to a second entity by evaluating Boolean expressions includes identifying a set of criteria vertices for a second entity vertex by traversing a graph database in a manner constrained to fact vertices identified for the second entity. The graph database relates fact vertices to the criteria vertices by edges corresponding to Boolean expressions for satisfying criteria for matching first entities to second entities. The method additionally includes selecting one of the first entities based on the criteria vertices of the set. The method further includes matching the first entity to the second entity based on the selection.

  • Patent number: 9384450
Abstract: A method for training a machine learning model for open domain question answering includes receiving trained classifiers for question answering. The received trained classifiers are used to generate a set of candidate answers to a question. Second trained classifiers are used for scoring each of the candidate answers. The scoring indicates a measure of how well each candidate answer answers the question. Using the second trained classifiers for scoring each of the candidate answers includes comparing each candidate answer to a first ground truth corresponding to the question. A set of top-scoring candidate answers is presented to a human operator who marks each as correct or incorrect. The correct candidate answers are treated as additional ground truths for further training the first trained classifiers.

  • Patent number: 9378268
Abstract: A method is provided for organizing data sets. In use, an automatic decision system is created or updated for determining whether data elements fit a predefined organization or not, where the decision system is based on a set of preorganized data elements. A plurality of data elements is organized using the decision system. At least one organized data element is selected for output to a user based on a score or confidence from the decision system for the at least one organized data element. Additionally, at least a portion of the at least one organized data element is output to the user. A response is received from the user comprising at least one of a confirmation, modification, and a negation of the organization of the at least one organized data element. The automatic decision system is recreated or updated based on the user response. Other embodiments are also presented.

  • Patent number: 9373086
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided, in association with a Question and Answer (QA) system, for implementing corpus identified reasoning when evaluating questions. An input question is received and an answer to the input question and supporting evidence for the answer are determined based on an evaluation of a corpus of information. The supporting evidence is analyzed to identify reasoning criteria specifying a reason as to why the answer is considered to be a correct answer by a provider of the supporting evidence. Rules are generated based on the identified reasoning criteria with the rules correlating the answer with the identified reasoning criteria and features of the input question. The rules are stored as entries in a reasoning data structure a subsequent question is processed based on the reasoning data structure.

  • Patent number: 9361386
Abstract: Mechanisms for clarifying an input question are provided. A question is received for generation of an answer. A set of candidate answers is generated based on an analysis of a corpus of information. Each candidate answer has an evidence passage supporting the candidate answer. Based on the set of candidate answers, a determination is made as to whether clarification of the question is required. In response to a determination that clarification of the question is required, a request is sent for user input to clarify the question. User input is received from the computing device in response to the request and at least one candidate answer in the set of candidate answers is selected as an answer for the question based on the user input.

  • Patent number: 9355572
Abstract: The system and method to advance human performance in sighting, tracking, recognizing, and reacting to (collectively “engaging”) moving and stationary stimuli, for example, advancing skill in engaging targets with a firearm. System components include software and hardware that provide target and non-target image stimuli that can be manually or automatically generated as stationary or moving stimuli in a blank, gridded, or a rendered scene environment. The methods including an initial phase providing increasing stimuli rigor, for example, movement speeds and/or reducing the interval between or the time for which stimuli are displayed, a plateau level of stimuli rigor which is above that which any trainee can properly engage the stimuli, and then a reduced stimuli rigor level, for example, the movement speeds and/or increase the interval time to levels at which the trainee properly engages the stimuli.

  • Patent number: 9349117
Abstract: The invention provides an integration method for an electronic device having a display and an integrated database storing learning data corresponding to an individual. The display displays an operative frame having icons representing categories respectively and each of the learning data is associated to at least one of the categories. The method comprises displaying a first set of learning data associated to one of the categories at the operative frame and receiving a first signal. When the first signal is for selecting one of the icons representing another one category, a second set of learning data associated to another one category is displayed at operative frame. When the first signal is for selecting one datum among the displayed first set of learning data, a third set of learning data is displayed at the operative frame, wherein the third set of learning data is related to the selected datum.
