The membrane is then removed and dried thoroughly, then placed in the suspension of mixed colored beads coated with anti-ciguatoxin. The membrane is then rinsed in water and the intensity of the color compared with a standard range of colors formed (0-3+). The color intensity is proportional to the concentration of toxin in the piece of tissue. The kit includes the synthetic membrane on a plastic stick, a suspension of mixed colored beads coated with anti-ciguatoxin antibody, testing instruments, and a supply of solvent.

The marker and bispecific antibodies are soluble so that they can move on the spreading layer. The bispecific antibodies include a first bispecific antibody, having specificity for the detectable material in the fluid sample and the marker, and a second bispecific antibody, having specificity for the detectable material in the fluid sample and the catcher. Pore sizes and particle diameters are set so that the reaction product in which the marking elements and the particles are bonded are caught at a catching section. The concentration of the marking elements and the particles are increased to improve detection sensitivity. The result is an inexpensive and simple detection apparatus being highly-sensitive for the immunological detection of a detectable material, without wasting valuable antibodies.

The antibody mixture that is perfused through each slot recognizes several different proteins of sufficiently different molecular weights that different protein bands can be resolved by the antibody mixture in each slot.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for qualitatively or quantitatively determining one or more analytes in matrices such as foods, biological fluids, etc. An embodiment for determination of a single analyte comprises a sample receiving vessel, a first membrane and a reagent-containing well. The prepared sample passes through the first membrane whereby extraneous matter is removed, and a filtrate enters the reagent-containing well to provide a filtrate-reagent admixture from which the analyte may be determined. An embodiment for determination for multiple analytes includes one or more additional membranes in series with the first membrane, each such additional membrane being operative to capture one or more analytes. Each of the additional analytes may then be eluted from the membrane upon which it has been captured, into a separate reagent-containing well to provide eluant-reagent admixture from which each desired analyte may be determined. Formulations for preparation additives are also included.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for quantifying cholesterol in HDL, which does not require complex fragmentation and separation operations, and by which the HDL cholesterol in test samples containing HDL and other lipoproteins such as low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicron (CM) may be quantified selectively, simply and accurately. The method for quantifying cholesterol in high density lipoprotein comprises a first step of erasing cholesterol in lipoproteins other than high density lipoprotein in a test sample, and a second step of adding a surfactant which specifically acts on high density lipoprotein to the product of the first step and enzymatically quantifying cholesterol in high density lipoprotein.

Multiple phenotypes can be captured simultaneously.     Abstract: A glycated hemoglobin assay utilizes a simple procedure for the determination of standardized %GHb in whole blood samples correlated to the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT). First, a lysed whole blood sample is incubated with a solid phase that is coupled with boronic acid or similar boronate compound through covalent linkage chemistries known in the art. Next, a labeled antibody to human hemoglobin is added and the resulting signal is directly proportional to the %GHb in the sample. The advantages of measuring %GHb using a single determination include high precision and, since the assay is easily automatable, high throughput. With automation, this assay can also be consolidated with other testing on one analyzer. The method according to the various embodiments of the invention thus eliminates the need for two measurements: one for GHb and another for total hemoglobin (THb).
