  • Patent number: 10418616
Abstract: A battery terminal protection assembly includes a battery having at least one terminal with a plurality of tabs. A cover for protecting the battery terminal includes a cap including an outer wall and a plurality of inner segments attached to the outer wall and including a radially outwardly extending ledge adjacent the bottom surface of the inner segments. The cap being placed overtop of the terminal with the radially outwardly extending ledges engaging the plurality of tabs. An insert including a top portion with a post extending from a bottom surface of the top portion and the post including a first radially outwardly extending flange, the post being received within the cap so that the first radially outwardly extending flange engages the inner segment in an abutting relationship to secure the radially outwardly extending ledge in engagement with the one of the plurality of tabs.

  • Patent number: 7473489
Abstract: A battery terminal bolt preferably having a head portion, a washer portion, a sealing portion and a threaded portion. The sealing portion is disposed between the washer portion and the threaded portion and is preferably in the form of a frustoconical shape that allows the bolt to be substantially sealed when placed in an insert mold. The battery terminal bolt's washer portion has a geometry that substantially reduces abusive field torque failures and also provides increased pull-out strength. In a preferred embodiment, the washer portion contains semi-circular projections in a radial pattern around longitudinal axis of the battery terminal bolt.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a lead terminal for an accumulator by plastic deformation on a cold-working apparatus that has a shaping station (2) and at least one deformation station (30. 40, 50, 60, 80) by shaping, at the shaping station, a slug (7) that has a longitudinal extension along a longitudinal axis such as to provide base (9) and contact (8) parts for the terminal and a size commensurate with the size of the terminal end piece to be manufactured; transferring the slug (7) to the deformation station (30, 40. 50, 60, 80); carrying out a first deformation of the slug (7) for inner and outer shaping of its base part (9); and carrying out a second deformation of the slug (7) for performing at least a further inner and outer shaping of the base part (9), the deformations being performed sequentially as progressive deformation steps.

  • Patent number: 6533619
Abstract: A terminal cap (10) is provided to prevent erroneous use of a booster cable to connect batteries that have different specifications. The terminal cap (10) is mounted to cover a battery terminal (T) to be connected with one of electrodes of a 32V-battery. The terminal cap (10) has protection walls (20) that extend from a first accommodating portion (11a) for accommodating a connecting portion (7) of the battery terminal (T). The protection walls (20) are formed to be higher than a threaded shaft (1) of the electrode. Thus, even if an attempt is made to erroneously connect a booster cable, the protection walls (20) will interfere with the booster cable and prevent connection with the electrode located inside the protection walls (20).

  • Patent number: 5046962
Abstract: A cable terminal assembly for battery posts includes interfitting inner and outer members provided with cooperating camming surfaces on the lower portions thereof so that when nested and the inner member is axially displaced downwardly, a positive clamping action is achieved about the battery post with a complete shrouding thereof. Openings and passageways within the two members communicate with one or more bores accessible from without the assembly to permit the injection of a suitable fluid substance designed to minimize corrosion following the filling of these openings and passageways with such substance which bathes the battery post and forms a seal or bead beneath the assembly. Tool engaging provisions on both members accommodate the use of wrenches or the like to relatively axially displace the members during attachment and removal of the assembly with a precise axial displacement being accomplished in view of cooperating threads connecting the nested members.

  • Patent number: 5021305
Abstract: A cover for battery terminals includes a cap arrangement that may be placed over a battery terminal and a standard cable connector to seal and protect against corrosion. In a first form, the cap includes hinged base sections and a cover section. The hinged base sections include semi-circular recesses that close about the terminal below the connector. The cover section is received over the terminal connector and upright walls of the base section. A first seal is positioned between the cap and the battery case, sealing the cap to the case. A second seal fits between the cable and the cap to complete the sealed enclosure about the terminal and connector. In a second preferred embodiment, the cap includes top and side walls with cable passages. In this embodiment, a surface is formed on the battery case for engagement with the cap to form a first seal about the terminal and connector.

  • Patent number: 4920018
Abstract: A cover for battery terminals includes a base plate and cap arrangement that, together with flexible seals, may be placed over a battery terminal and an attached connector to seal and protect the terminal and connector against corrosion. The base plate includes two base sections that are connected by an integral hinge. Each section includes a semi-circular recess that closes about the terminal below the connector when the two sections are moved together to a closed condition. A first flexible seal is positioned over the terminal post prior to placement of the base. The base may then be placed over the terminal and pressed onto the seal. The seal will deform and fill any voids between the terminal and the cover base. The cap may then be placed over the base, enclosing the terminal and connector. Interfitting walls of the cap and base form an enclosure seal about the terminal and connector. Matching cable receiving recesses are provided in the walls of the base and cap.
