Having Interengageable Sealing Extension Patents (Class 439/281)
  • Patent number: 8251731
Abstract: A multiple contact connector interfaces between an implanted medical device and an implanted cable or lead. A connector connects between multiple implanted leads, each of which has multiple independent conductors. The connection system is a planar array of male connector pins on one portion, and a matching array of female connector receptacles on a second portion. Alignment via alignment features and pressing together the portions allows pins to engage with the receptacles providing a secure electrical connection. Sealing features on the connector apparatus seal out external fluids and isolate fluid present in the connector apparatus prior to mating, which electrically isolates each pin and its corresponding receptacle from other pin and receptacle pairs. Latching features retains the relative position of the pins, receptacle, and the positioning of the fluid seals, and is reversible for removal of the connector.

Abstract: A waterproof electrical connector for airfield lighting applications has a connector body with a first end and an opposing second end. The first end terminates at a first end cap that has a strain/bend relief feature and a first bore for receiving a cable that extends into the first end. At least one O-Ring extends from the walls of the first bore. The opposing second end terminates at a second end cap and has a second bore extending through the second end cap and into the second end. A sleeve is affixed to an exterior surface of the second end cap. An electrically insulated cable is inserted into the first bore engaging the O-Rings to form a waterproof seal. An electrical contact engages the second end cap and the sleeve folds over the second end cap to engage a surface of this contact forming a waterproof seal.

  • Patent number: 7950940
Abstract: Separating connector assemblies of a separable connector system. The separable connector assemblies include one or more pairs of connectors configured to engage and disengage one another in electrical connection and disconnection operations, respectively. An operator can disengage the connectors by pushing the connectors together and then pulling the connectors apart. Pushing the connectors together shears interface adhesion between the connectors, making it easier for the operator to pull the connectors apart. One of the connectors can include a nose end having an undercut segment configured to not engage an interior surface of the other connector when the connectors are engaged. Limiting the surface area of the nose end that interfaces with the interior surface of the other connector reduces surface adhesion and a pressure drop when separating the connectors, making separation easier to perform.

Abstract: Known pumping devices have a connection lid, a connection cap slipped over the connection lid, a hollow chamber formed between the connection lid and the connection cap, and electrical connections that extend through the connection cap into the hollow chamber. It is disadvantageous that when fuels containing water are being pumped, such as ethanol, corrosion can occur at the electrical connections and at the uninsulated cable segments that are exposed to fuel near the electrical connections, for instance at the electrical coils or flexible cables of the carbon brushes, and in the final analysis this leads to an interruption in the electrical contact and thus to failure of the pumping device. In the electrical device of the invention, corrosion of the electrical connections and of the electrical components adjoining them upstream and downstream is avoided entirely or at least greatly diminished. According to the invention, the electrical connections are each provided in separate chambers of the hollow chamber.

The protrusions engage with and seal off the cavities to form an electrically conductive path with the cable terminals when the body and the plug mate. The latching projection retentively engages the plug. The plug assembly disengages by manipulation of the latching member projection member.

Abstract: A hermaphroditic connector for a multiple conduit cable assembly comprises a cylindrical protective collar surrounding an inner cylindrical core. The collar is axially secured to the inner core but partially rotatable about the core. The distal end of the collar is formed to rotatively mesh with another collar of the same shape to mechanically secure a joint of two collars. Cable conduits enter the assembly through one axial end for electrical junction to terminals imbedded within the inner core. The terminals are functionally aligned with one of four parallel chord sections on the distal end-face of the inner core. The cross-sectional area of the inner core end-face is divided into two half-area sections; two parallel chord sections in each half-area section. The distal end-faces of the several chord sections are profiled to three, axially spaced, cross-sectional planes to axially mesh respective connector pins and sockets.
