    Abstract: Disclosed are methods and devices for testing downhole connector electrical systems and cable integrity during installation of a permanent completion, including a customized retrievable plug arm assembly connectable to the completion during RIH, the tool mimicking a retrievable ESP, but without motor, and can be employed with or without pressure isolation. Another method employs a slidable starpoint located within the downhole wet mate connector of the completion to provide continuous electrical contact between the phases when no retrievable assembly is in place. When a retrievable assembly is later put in place, the slidable starpoint is moved into a second position that no longer provides electrical contact between the phases. Another method uses fusible links installed between two conductors within the downhole electrical connector system of the completion to provide similar electrical contact between phases, the fusible link configured to melt away once motor current is sent through the conductors.

    Abstract: A method for making a wet mate electrical connection in an underground borehole with a static downhole conductor pin that is protected from the borehole environment by a non-sealed shuttle and a moveable mating receptacle/conductor which presses on the outer body of the shuttle thus causing it to move along the conductor pin tube. The conductor pin inserts into the receptacle connector and connects to the contacts. Both connectors are filled with a dielectric fluid for isolation and are pressure balanced to counteract volume variation due to temperature changes. The moveable receptacle connector uses a non-conductive pin which is replaced by the conductor pin and provides a surface for wiper seals. As mating occurs, the conductor pin replaces the non-conductive pin, so no volume change occurs, and pressure change is eliminated. A reverse labyrinth isolates the heavy dielectric of the static connector from borehole fluid.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a porcelain lamp socket for use in a humid environment where the socket has a body, a screw shell, a center contact and two terminals; one for the line and the other for the neutral wire connection. The screw shell and the line and neutral terminals are attached to the porcelain body by means of fasteners such as eyelets, rivets, screws, etc. All electrical conductors in the bottom of the socket, including the fasteners are covered with a spacer which forms a watertight seal with the bottom surface of the body. The spacer, which can be made of high dielectric plastic material, can be mechanically held in place by projections which fit snuggly within the eyelets or rivets. RTV, either by itself or in combination with soft fillers such as washers can also be used to obtain a water tight seal. The device disclosed finds utility in applications where superior dielectric strength is desired between the live parts on or in the socket and the sheet metal (ground) to which the socket is mounted.

When they are not used, the secondary device is pushed into the container of the primary device to be hidden therein by the elastic pressing buckles to buckle the buckle grooves. Thus, the primary device and the secondary device are combined together and the space is used efficiently.

    Abstract: A vacuum tight electrical feedthru is disclosed for use where electrical leads must pass through the walls of a container in which a high vacuum must be maintained. It is useful in conjunction with infrared sensors, as well as for security, fire detection, rescue, night vision and medical applications. The feedthru includes a ceramic circuit ring with electrical traces deposited on one side. A ceramic seal ring partially covers the traces and is fired down to the main ceramic ring forming a hermetic seal. Metal rings are brazed to the seal ring and the ceramic circuit ring to allow welding to a housing. Spring loaded pads load a resilient pad onto the cables forcing gold plated dots to make contact to the pads on the ceramic circuit ring. This feedthru provides 180 conductors, 90 on each side. The ribbon cables are etched to expose the wires, which are then pressed on the gold dots.
