Retaining Means With Distinct Movement-actuating Means To Move Coupling Part Axially Patents (Class 439/310)
  • Patent number: 5556302
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is provided which assumes a fully coupled state even if it was in a semi-coupled state prior to being attached to a support bracket (B). A lever has an inclined coupling surface which draws a semi-coupled female connector housing in the coupling direction, thereby ensuring a fully coupled state. A support bracket (B) cannot be fully inserted until the lever has moved the connectors from a semi-coupled to a fully coupled condition. If the connectors are improperly connected a second inclined surface of the lever decouples the connectors as the support bracket (B) is engaged.

Abstract: A spring is wound on a connection terminal with one end thereof fixedly secured to the connection terminal. A spiral protuberance is formed on a bore wall of a holder hole and is engaged with the spring. With this construction, when the connection terminals are to be fitted together, the spring is guided by the spiral protuberance to be angularly displaced, and at the same time, the connection terminal fixed to the spring is also angularly displaced in synchronism therewith. Therefore, even if dust or the like deposits on connection terminals, it can be removed by the rotation of one of the connection terminals during the fitting operation to maintain a good electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 5490798
Abstract: A connector examining device in which a retainer for attaching a terminal within a housing can be pushed into the housing simultaneous with an examination of a connector. When a lever is pulled up, a cam comes in contact with a trailing end surface of a detector portion. This allows the detector portion to slide toward a connector receiving portion. After the detector portion is in contact with the connector receiving portion, the connector receiving portion and the detector portion together are further displaced. At this time, a retainer pusher, fixed to a base, pushes into the housing the retainer temporarily engaged with the housing of the connector held by the connector receiving portion. Thus, the retainer and the terminal within the housing are engaged with one another, and the terminals are engaged with the housing.

Abstract: A connector inspecting apparatus includes (i) a connector receiving portion for holding a connector which is to be inspected and which has a terminal and (ii) an inspecting portion having a detecting piece corresponding to the terminal. The inspecting apparatus is arranged for inspecting the connector by moving the connector receiving portion and the inspecting portion toward and away from each other. One of the connector receiving portion and the inspecting portion is rotatably attached to a base. The other of the receiving portion and the inspecting portion is so guided as to be moved toward and away from the rotatably attached portion. When either of the receiving or inspecting portion is rotated, such rotational movement is converted into a sliding movement of the other portion. Accordingly, by rotating one of the portions, the connector can be inspected. This not only reduces the space required for installing the connector inspecting apparatus, but also facilitates the inspection operation.

  • Patent number: 5191282
Abstract: An improved system for testing electrical circuit boards in an environmental test chamber includes a carrier moveable into and out of the chamber. The carrier supports a relatively large number of printed circuit boards to be tested by exposure to extremes of temperature, for example. Each board is electrically linked to a carrier-mounted multiple-conductor "gang" connector. The chamber has a multiple-conductor gang receptacle into which the connector is plugged as the carrier moves fully into the chamber. Such arrangement provides a way to electrically monitor board testing by instruments outside the chamber. An automated insertion/extraction assembly powers the carrier between an interconnect position and a disconnect position. The circuit boards are handled as a group of "unit" and the assembly provides both automatic connection and disconnection upon initiation by the chamber operator. Circuit board testing may thereby be accomplished accurately and more expeditiously than with earlier systems.

Abstract: A mechanical coupling system wherein a spline screw system is used to connect two bodies, a work attachment mechanism and a work attachment fixture. A kinematic clamp first guides and mates the attachment mechanism to the attachment fixture. The kinematic clamp includes three round roller members equidistantly located around the periphery of the bodies and three correspondingly located V-shaped grooves located on the periphery of the other body. A motor driven spline screw in the attachment mechanism then engages a spline bolt head in the attachment fixture and includes a threaded shank upon which is mounted a translatable nut which is adapted to translate up and down the shank but not rotate. The nut carries one or more electrical connectors which travel upwardly during a connecting sequence and cams open a set of dust covers which operate to engage an opposing set of dust covers adjacent complementary type electrical connectors on the attachment mechanism.
